A Perfect Circle Pet Lyrics

Last updated: 09/14/2013 08:59:00 AM

Don't fret precious I'm here,
step away from the window
and go back to sleep

Lay your head down child
I won't let the boogeyman come
Countin' bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drums
Pay no mind to the rabble
Pay no mind to the rabble
Head down, go to sleep
To the rhythm of the war drums

Pay no mind what other voices say
They don't care about you, like I do, (like I do)
Safe from pain, and truth, and choice, and other poison devils,
See, they don't give a fuck about you, like I do.

Just stay with me,
safe and ignorant, go,
back to sleep, go
back to sleep

Lay your head down child
I won't let the boogeyman come
Countin' bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drums
Pay no mind to the rabble
Pay no mind to the rabble
Head down, go to sleep
To the rhythm of the war drums

I'll be the one to protect you from
Your enemies and all your demons
I'll be the one to protect you from
A will to survive and a voice of reason
I'll be the one to protect you from
Your enemies and your choices son
They're one and the same
I must isolate you
Isolate and save you from yourself

Swayin' to the rhythm of the new world order and
Counting bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drums
The boogeymen are coming
The boogeymen are coming
Keep your head down, go to sleep
To the rhythm of the war drums

Stay with me
Safe and ignorant
Just stay with me
I'll hold you and protect you from the other ones,
The evil ones, don't love you son,
Go back to sleep.

So awesome | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/14/13

For me, the first thing I saw in the lyrics were the words and thoughts of soul-sucking, manipulative, narcissistic parents... That's colored by my experiences of course, but I think Maynard would prefer each person to find an interpretation with individual significance. Cheers! :D

Song meaning | Reviewer: RedDeath | 7/16/13

Maynard has said that all songs on the 13th step relate to drugs in some way or another. I don't believe that the people saying this is about "illuminati" or whatever else to be correct. I think this song personifying drugs from an addict's perspective. The "other voices" and rabble are the people trying to intervene and save them while the song is sung as if the drugs were a person talking to the addict as a friend.

man.. | Reviewer: Chy | 5/3/13

This song is just incredible honestly. I'm not going to write what I think this song means because honestly, all the emotions I feel when I listen to it are to overwhelming to think through so I just go with the music, the words, and Maynard's voice. Regardless, it's all very powerful and something that should be enjoyed although Maynard might (?) want us to also consider what it means and roll that around in our heads for a bit

Wonderful song | Reviewer: A | 4/6/13

I have been an (opiate) addict, and while everybody has a different interpretation of songs I can definitely see addiction in this. I feel like it is the drug talking, because it does feel like nobody cares and everyone hates you. The drug makes you feel calm, happy, safe. You feel like nothing can hurt you, even if you're really just lying to yourself.
As an opiate addict, there is nothing you fear more than abstinence. It is pure anxiety and pain, your body and mind feels like a war. You just want to die. I feel like the boogeyman is the abstinence in this song. It's so relatable, I love it a lot.

your all wrong | Reviewer: Alex | 1/9/13

So many comments on what the message of this is and all that jazz. I may as well put mine.
He purposefully made it look like he was putting a message in the song just to mess with your heads and laugh as you came up with a hundred different things that are probably wrong. CUZ ITS WHAT I'D DO. lol

song subject | Reviewer: stantonxxx | 12/8/12

This song is clearly about the real life New World Order and George W. Bush. Keep your head down, I will protect you from the boogey man (terrorism), don't pay any attention to what we are doing it's for your own good (go back to sleep). Countin' bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drums, is exactly what they are doing now with the current wars. 13th step was released in 2003, and the NWO entered a new era of dominance with the events of 9/11/01. You can choose to be ignorant, and go back to sleep, or you can wake up and realize what's going on. Maynard is a genius. This song rules. Bye.

Hmmm.. | Reviewer: Anon | 11/6/12

I really love this song, a lot. I do think that it is some sort of companion song to "Counting bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drum". Am I the only one who remember that this song is about the night terrors his son has?

“Go back to bed, America. Your government has figured out how it all transpired. Go back to bed, America. Your government is in control again. Here. Here's American Gladiators. Watch this, shut up. Go back to bed, America. Here is American Gladiators. Here is 56 channels of it! Watch these pituitary retards bang their fucking skulls together and congratulate you on living in the land of freedom. Here you go, America! You are free to do what we tell you! You are free to do what we tell you!” ― Bill Hicks

Personality disorder subconsciously protecting himself | Reviewer: darkcircles | 5/23/12

The voice in his head is a familiar one. One that speaks of his subconsious thought. A personality disorder controlling his thoughts and speaking to him as if another person. A defence mechanism which takes over any thoughts of reason and replaces them with his disorders take on the cause and reason for an undesirable event taking place in his life. The same disorder that he has had since early childhood, that has always been there to protect him and his fears of abandonment and betrayal, is now once again there to protect him. Telling him to go back to sleep and not to worry because it is once again there to manipulate his thoughts. Count the people who have done you wrong, This is their fault. Increasing the seperation from others and pushing him further into isolation and distrust of others. Going to war with anyone who might question culpability. Its their fault. You are the victim. Im here for you, you dont need anyone else in your life. It is a song about his borderline personality disorder and his awareness that he has such a disorder and his inability to control his own rational thoughts about something troubling him, because his subconscious will not allow him to be vulnerable. It is an awesome song about a very real human condition. A complete understanding of oneself and why he has left himself isolated from others, and at the same time accepting that it is something impossible for him to ever change because he wont let himself.

NWO lyrics | Reviewer: duuuude | 4/1/12

I agree with brian... while we may never truely know the intent of maynard and friends while writing this track, everything he states about the new world order and the mason's is on record and verifiable. do your own research...

Powerful songs | Reviewer: DeclaredInsane | 10/29/11

What a powerful awesome song! Just bought this album from someone, they rock!!! Not only are the lyrics deep and mesmerizing but the musical overtones are very hypnotic. This is what we call real music. Funny a few weeks ago I was working on a my new rock song goes like this:

say your prays and say good night dear child,
if there's love in your heart no need to be afraid,
there's always going to be monsters beneath your bed,
and they all live inside your precious little head
live on live on,begone begone, chase away those demon spawn,
live on live on,begone begone, this child needs to dream right now

just close your eyes and I'll sing your lullaby

- Not quite the same but same concept I think lol

Great song. ^_^ | Reviewer: Dekwul | 10/11/11

I really like this song along with it's counterpart, "Counting Bodies Like Sheep To The Rhythm Of The Wardrum" on eMOTIVe.

I also think that last line goes like, "Don't argue, son." rather than "Don't love you, son."
Well, my opinion at least.

Chillin' to The Thirteenth Step as I type is all. ;)

To catt! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/1/11

<3 Oh my gosh, I thought the same with all of the yamis and hikaris when I heard this song. I thought it was adorable.

This song is just amazing in every way. Stop fighting, Maynard wouldn't want that...he would want you to escape from reality for a while and enjoy. So go smoke some pot and CHILL OR GTFO --->

Really? | Reviewer: JimmySideStep | 8/3/11

You clowns on your high horses about some political or conspiracy agenda are so pathetically lame that I hope I never meet you in person.

Get a life. I searched the lyrics, liked the lyrics, interpret them how I want AND choose not to go on some dumbarse rant about how genius I am, how dumb everyone else is and why you should all know that my interpretation is the right one.

I impore you to enjoy it in your own right and leave it at that. Keep your arrogant rants for that theology corner you sit in at uni.

No one in the real world cares about your self important speech. Try finding contentment in real life pursuits, not inventing some ridiculous cause that is based on being different and controversial as a result of being dissatisfied with your pathetic and mundane existance.

Hypnotizing | Reviewer: A pet | 6/23/11

I just think that this song is hypnotizing.... I feel like Maynard is talking to me, so I just put my head down and listen. I dont want to know the meaning. He keeps me innocent from the other things going on here with this song. I can't turn it off when it comes on.
