BORN: December 30, 1946, Chicago, IL
"Three chord rock merged with the power of the word."
So Patti Smith described her music on the 1975 release of
Horses, her celebrated debut album; and so she has
continued to blend the spoken and sung arts in incantatory
fashion with her latest work, Gone Again. Impossible to
categorize, moving easily between the literary and musical
worlds, always unpredictable and impassioned, she is an
idiosyncratically unique performer who has always remained
true to her artistic vision.
Born in Chicago and raised in Woodbury, New Jersey, just
across the state line from Philadelphia, Patti's mother,
Beverly, was a jazz singer cum waitress. Her father, Grant,
worked at the Honeywell plant; she was the oldest of four
siblings: her siste More...

------ About the song Revenge performed by Patti Smith
Has anybody realized that this song is about Tom Verlaine, her ex-boyfriend/musical collaborator? ("Don't leave me no space in your little boat" is reference to Television's "See No Evil.") I assume Patti & Tom have made up since then as they've worked together again, but she was pretty pissed at him here...great song, BTW.
Patti is one of the "Lady Treasures" of rock & roll | Reviewer: Paul White
------ About the song Dancing Barefoot performed by Patti Smith
Dancing Barefoot is my favorite Patti Smith song. Theyre's so much "going on" there lyrically; she truly does find her righteous space -among women. She gives you so much to think about throughout the song, especially at the end. Not only is she at her best vocally on this album (Wave), the musicianship of the band really helps kick it all up a couple notches. Check out "Frederick" and her cover of "So You Want To Be A Rock & Roll Star" - both excellent!
I think above all else though, I love her concept for the album liner picture which has Patti standing there (I believe with a dove in hand - alas I've misplaced it!!) with this quote from the poet Rainer Maria Rilke which says: "For one human being to love another; that is perhaps the most difficult of all our tasks, the ultimate, the last test and proof, the work for which all other work is but preparation." If that doesn't say it all, I don't know what does. Thanks Patti Smith for reminding us! God bless you!

------ About the song Gandhi performed by Patti Smith
it has a phychedelic flavour...and spirituality. this punk rock song is an unmathced tribute to gandhi. gandhi's revolution, though non-violent didnt lack vigour. that's what new-era punks can learn ... and patti smith ... she is impossible !!!!

------ About the song Pissing in a River performed by Patti Smith
This song is heavy, emotion practically pours out of the speakers, intense sound. If this what you need to listen to, your a extremely deep person when it comes to music, candles, wacki backi, lieing back on the covers..she will steal your mind. Recommended. Sincerely.x

Excellent Song, 20 years ahead of its time | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Revenge performed by Patti Smith
Starts out haunting, almost like The House of the Rising Sun, like a perfect storm, it's such a beautiful song. It pre-dates Chrissy Hynde, I think, who took a cue from Patti the eternal poetess. If it were released today, it would be a hit. Even Alanis would have to bow to Patti. She paved the way for all female alternative grooves. On this song, Patti sounds dangerous, mysterious, as though her life were unfolding and she is taking 'sweet revenge.' And "nobody gets hurt, nobody gets anything" sounds threatening but the words, themselves, are sweet, like revenge.
