Passenger Seat Lyrics - Death Cab For Cutie
Review The Song (23)
I roll the window down
And then begin to breathe in
The darkest country road
And the strong scent of evergreen
From the passenger seat as you are driving me home.
Then looking upwards
I strain my eyes and try
To tell the difference between shooting stars and satellites
From the passenger seat as you are driving me home.
"Do they collide?"
I ask and you smile.
With my feet on the dash
The world doesn't matter.
When you feel embarrassed then I'll be your pride
When you need directions then I'll be the guide
For all time.
For all time.
And then begin to breathe in
The darkest country road
And the strong scent of evergreen
From the passenger seat as you are driving me home.
Then looking upwards
I strain my eyes and try
To tell the difference between shooting stars and satellites
From the passenger seat as you are driving me home.
"Do they collide?"
I ask and you smile.
With my feet on the dash
The world doesn't matter.
When you feel embarrassed then I'll be your pride
When you need directions then I'll be the guide
For all time.
For all time.

This is a simple and beautiful song to learn on piano. I transcribed it myself and would like to share it with anyone who wants to learn for their own enjoyment.

This is such an amazing song. I'm going to sing it for my mum soon. It just reminds me of all the times she's looked after me, and put up with me. Laughed with me. =)
I just get the warmest fuzzy feeling.
I just love this so much... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/27/10
This song really hit me emotionally. This reminds me of so many memories of various people. I live in an area where the scene painted by the lyrics is a reality. The scenario played out exactly as the lyrics described. I'm just so comforted when I listen to this song; the lyrics are wrapping around my heart--they speak to me. This is probably one of my favorite songs. Great song to listen to if you want to chill out. The simplicity of it really gets you.
Friendship | Reviewer: Ildi | 9/10/10
The first time I ever heard this song was with my best friend the summer before I left for college over 6 years ago. Ironically, I always was a passenger and did put my feet up and we both fell in love with the song. Every time I hear it, it brings me back to feeling 18 and feeling naive and no matter what has happened since then we always have that moment and this song.
Truly a beautiful song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/11/10
Ben Gibbard is a lyrical genius, such simple yet deep poetry accompanied by such a poignant melody. I first listened to this in the passenger seat of a car with my eyes closed. It's such a rare song that can truly make you appreciative of every little simplistic thing, a state of contentment is not complex; it's this simple.
It's quality that matters | Reviewer: Ashpeace | 8/2/10
This song has it's own beauty within. It reminds me so much of falling in love for real for the very first time, and not knowin it at the same time. And to feel love emotionally for the very first time is overwhelming. It really reminds me of how much the little things are what makes the big things matter. And how the little things are what make the quality of everyday. Everytime this song comes on it brings me strength to know I'll be okay. I just think of Billy and I completely escape from any worries or pain.

This song just brings tears of happiness and sadness to my eyes. I don't know why, I guess I'm just too mature for an eleven year old. I just want to go to sleep forever, and let the sweet music fold around me and nurture me. It reminds me of family and friends, ones who love me and push my negative thoughts away. Like the ones of knowing that my parents are nearing divorce or that I may move. In a few plain words, it makes me happy. I love DCFC.

Death Cab for Cutie is definitly my favorite band. This song is amazing...it just reached inside me and pulled out a feeling of inner..... calamity. Well I guess most of their songs do that...... I have to give all of the members of the band admiration for their work. Also, I adore Ben Gibbard's voice.
Peace, Love, and Happiness,
Sara

Amazing song, great lyrics-can't stop listening to it! Death Cab is the greatest band-they have great poetry and they show it very well in their calm, soothing music.
This sort of music puts you in a sad but great mood and makes you think of all the little things in life that you've never thought about before! Love it!!

I really like this song. I know what the singer is saying. :) Its an amazing feeling. And you just want to be quietly sitting there with him and enjoy the scenery. And then when you get closer home you wish that you took the long way.

Wonderful Song | Reviewer: Indigo | 3/13/08
I heard this song for the first time last night, and I was blown away. My boyfriend got me into Death Cab For Cutie, and when he sang this song for me last night, I got tearry eyed and felt very calm. Love the lyrics. :-)
amazing | Reviewer: Taylor | 11/6/07
This song simply amazes me. Everytime I listen to it, I can't resist the temptation to close my eyes and escape from reality. Every single note soaks through my body and vains and allows me to think clearly. This song really shows how important the simple things in life are, and how that's all that really matters. The detail expressed throughout the song is what I believe makes the song so moving. You can actually imagine sitting there in the passenger seat, smelling the evergreen, being with the one you love, and simply enjoying the moment. Death cab for cutie is not only a band, they are a group of poets, and musical geniuses. I truly believe their music could change a life.
