every time she closed her eyes
she saw what could have been
well nothing hurts and nothing bleeds
when covers tucked in tight
funny when the bottom drops
how she forgets to fight... to fight
and it's one more day in paradise
one more day in paradise
as darkness quickly steals the light
that shined within her eyes
she slowly swallows all her fear
and soothes her mind with lies
well all she wants and all she needs
are reasons to survive
a day in which the sun will take
her artificial light... her light
and it's one more day in paradise
one more day in paradise
it's one more day in paradise
one last chance to feel alright... alright
don't pretend to hold it in just let it out
don't pretend to hold it in just push it out
don't you try to hold it in just let it out and
don't you try to hold it in you hold it in
[chorus]
once upon a year gone by
she saw herself give in
every time she closed her eyes
she saw what could have been

Review about Paradise So touching | Reviewer: Anna | 8/26/2008
It's too great..when I first heard this song, I felt like entering another world in my mind. When I introduced this song to my classmate, she said that the lines "every time she closed her eyes
she saw what could have been
well nothing hurts and nothing bleeds
when covers tucked in tight
funny when the bottom drops
how she forgets to fight..." touched her.Well, I was also touched by the lines on the second stanza because it's just too real. But still, this is one of the best songs I've ever heard and it's one of my favorites.
Paradise in meaning | Reviewer: Dawn | 5/26/2008
This is truely an amazing, heartbreaking song. I couldn't exactly grasp the meaning for the longest time because the terms seem so contrary to eachother. She talks about darkness, and holding it in, fear, and lies. But at the same time she talks about light and paradise. Then one day I grasped it because I was in the right mind to understand what, at least what I think, she means. What I think this song is talking about is hiding yourself away from the world and your problems. Lying to yourself and fooling yourself into thinking your happy. Ignoring the pain. "One more day in paradise." To feel no pain for just one more day. "One last chance to feel alright." Its an internal struggle against heartbreak and feeling weak. Whether to hide away and live with the illusion of paradise and happiness or to let it out and deal with the pain.
I think this song is about what goes on in the world. I can sort of relate to it. It's one of my favorite songs.
Vanessa's best song | Reviewer: Malena | 7/12/2006
God, this song is so beautiful! It's Vanessa's best song! It's so stripped, so emotional! You can feel the sorrow, the sore tone so good. It's a masterpiece.
Thank you!
I <3 it | Reviewer: Danielle | 8/5/2004
This is such an inspiring song. I thought Vanessa was a total pop princess, and she is on the first 4 tracks of the album, then it's like she's stripped down of the fake stuff and it's just emotion. That's why I love this song. This girl has talent, and I hope when the next album comes out, she's going to represent herself as the deep person that I hear when I turn this song on.
Love It | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/30/2004
It's so poetic... love it love it love it! They should play it on the radio everyday. =)
I love this song a lot; it is in fact my favorite. It tells a lot about how superficial things can seem, I think, and it has awesome music. I love it; go listen to it ^_^
