You can't hold it too tight
These matters of security
You don't have to be wound so tight
Smoking on the balcony
But it's like sleaze in the park
You women you have no self-control,
We angels remark outside
You are known for insatiable needs
I don't know a thing
I've seen love
And I follow the speed in the starlight
I've seen love
And I follow the speed in the starswept night
Yeah pace is the trick
And to all the destruction in man
Well I see you as you take your pride, my lioness
Your defences seem wise I cannot press
And attentions at demise, my lioness
Can't you hurt it some, think I hurt it
I've seen love and I follow the speed in the starlight
I've seen love
And I follow the speed in the starswept night
And now I select you,
Slow now I let you
See how I stun, see how I stun
Now I select you, slow now I bet you
See how I stun, see how I stun
and to all the destruction in man
and to all the corruption in my hand...
And now I select you,
Slow now I let you see how I stun, see how I stun
Now I select you, slow now I bet you see how I stun, see how I stun
Now I select you,
Slow now I let you, see how I stun, see how I stun
Now I select you, slow now I let you
I always follow the speed in the starswept night

Review about Pace Is the Trick post New Year's party blues | Reviewer: Arthur Lee | 1/3/09
Yeah, I can't stop listening to the song. I was out partying New Year's day, and I realized how expansive we all are. And then from my post-party blues the next day, I haven't been able to stop listening to the song. In fact, the song inspired me to make a little short film that I'll be posting on YouTube.

Interpol really makes more of a poem than a song, and it takes a while to decipher some of them... I still don't really understand The Heinrich Maneuver, but I'm working on it. ;) They're excellent and you can listen to their songs many times 'cause their original and very cryptic... Take You on a Cruise is my favorite...
This song is so beautiful it gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. I agree that some of Interpol's lyrics are very spiritual and this is eclipsed in the music. This feature of their songs is not in your face and is only discovered after many listens, which makes their music so much more precious. The first song that really grabbed me on this album was Wrecking Ball..Don't know if anyone else would agree?

the blending sound of this song is excellent,so many layers...well said "Interpol is on a whole different level than anybody out there right now"
to those that question, what is this album about, what does this song mean, who do they refer to? the answers i have and the answers you wish to know more in depth you may ask me. when i was listening to this song i was going through a transitional period where everything in my life was bad, and i was completely lost, felt as if there was no one and just at the end of the road. then i bought this album and someOne was speaking to me through these songs of this album and especially through this song. This song is so great because it just is showing how man is lost by refrence of the woman being so wound up and smoking on the balcony, it just reminds me of that when i felt lost i tried to numb everything with things that were bad and felt so anguished. and well the song goes to refrence angels and that is when i noticed that something quite ethereal came through this song, and that was God. and when they refrence "i found love" that love was God. the song also refrences the "destruction of man" and "the corruption in my hand" this is were i understood that both destruction and corruption in this earth is due to one and only problem...man and our sins.
this song means alot to me as much as the others, the lighthouse is quite symbolic as are Pioneer to the Falls, No I in Threesome (clue: God, Son and Holy Spirit) this album is very well written and the meaning is greater than any man would fathom. God speaks in mysterious ways, when you have the chance to analyze the context of each song analyze it with refrence to what i have said, im sure it won't be just me to find that there is a larger purpose and meaning to this album.

Superior Song...AMAZING! | Reviewer: Jared | 7/26/07
Musically, Interpol is on a whole different level than anybody out there right now, with the exception of RHCP. It's astonishing that they aren't a smash success in terms of album sales.
By far the best song on the album | Reviewer: brian | 7/24/07
Every interpol album has a song that gives me goosebumps. I am a macho guy, so that is really saying something.
First there was Leif Erikson, then Public Pervert, and now Pace Is the Trick
The song is pure magic. I wish i could lose myself in a drug-induced trip forever, with this song being the soundtrack
Pace is the Trick swept me away at firt listen. Now that I know the Lyrics I can't stop going back to it everytime. No I in Threesome and My Chemistry are pretty good too!
yeah, I agree with You, it's best song of new album. best moment is ,when Paul start singing "And NOW i Select You.."
cool.
interpol - the best band in the world | Reviewer: RINGE | 7/7/07
Pace is the Trick is a wonderful example of the beauty of Interpol's lyrics and music. This is probably the best song on their new album "Our Love To Admire" and grips you slowly, banging into a beautiful crescendo.
I love this.
