Overburdened Lyrics - Disturbed

Review The Song (37)

Hell is still overburdened
I must stand and wait in line
I may never know for certain
When will be my time
How was I considered evil?
Pleasures taken in this life
Someone granted me reprieval
Decades spent in strife

Led to nothing
Repeated in my mind
Led to nothing
If only I was born another time

Hell is still overburdened
I must stand and wait in line
Hell is still overburdened
How have I been so determined malign?

It's the closing of the curtain
In the play that was my life
Countless chapters left unopened
Tragedies inside
I was fighting for a reason
Holy blessed homicide
Seems I have committed treason
All I've sacrificed

Led to nothing
Repeated in my mind
Led to nothing
If only I was born another time

Hell is still overburdened
I must stand and wait in line
Hell is still overburdened
How have I been so determined malign?
Hell is still overburdened
I must stand and wait in line
Hell is still overburdened
How have I been so determined malign?

Fate is so unkind
Now I should have known
Blind leading the blind
Reaping what I've sown
If it all amounts to nothing
Why, then, am I standing in this line?

Hell is still overburdened
I must stand and wait in line
Hell is still overburdened
How I have been so determined malign?
Hell is still overburdened
I must stand and wait in line
Hell is still overburdened
How have I been so determined malign?

Just...wow | Reviewer: Andr | 7/25/12

Overburdened seems to have struck a nerve with a lot op people. To me it just hits me in the chest and grips my heart. Makes me think of what i've learned thus far in my life, and what I should accept as true or falsehoods...

Story of the song | Reviewer: Kirk | 1/30/12

This song is actually about how hell is overburdened(overflowed) and there is a line to get in
While he is waiting in line to get in he looks back at his life and sees its all been wasted and now he's going to hell
He wonders why he did all this and wants a second chance but he can't get it

memories don't lie | Reviewer: sangraal | 4/30/11

I can see many of the interpretations previously mentioned. Especially from the second stanza, it's fitting to see it as a war vet who fought, killed and sacrificed for his country, only to see it having been in vain. All that for a country that's gone to shit and had become the very thing he once fought to prevent.

But that soldier and that country could also be emblematic of any one of us who, having fought and sacrificed for a cause we previously considered good, only to later determine that it was all for naught. Moreover, just maybe it was never the right thing or the right way to do it, but hindsight is a real bitch and now we're reaping the fruit of those actions and, damn, is that fruit ever bitter.

In either case, I can relate. This song speaks great volumes of my present view in life, both the past and the present. It's definitely one of my favorite Disturbed songs.

my meaning | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/5/11

In my opinion, this song is about someone who has been wrongly lead to do wrong in life and then wants to end it when looking back on it, in a similar way to a war veteran, and when saying he must wait in line to go to hell I think its more to do with release from life and passing on to forget such things rather than something more literal

Love this song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/1/11

the song spoke to me as him trying so hard to get something out of his life but instead was let down when his life was over, granted some peopl may think of this song as religious because it mentions hell and murder but I dk not see it as this way. Overall this is a very good song and can be taken in many different ways.

YOU ARE ALL MISSING THE GD POINT!!!!!! | Reviewer: James logan | 10/28/10

If you people had any sense whatsoever you might realize that god isn't an issue in any song that isn't sung in church or says so explicitly. Incumbents about god in songs that talk more about titties than life, and it makes me want to go on a killing rampage. Now stfu and listen to music.

Awesome Song | Reviewer: Alan | 3/22/10

Absolutely love the song, really sad, and i am happy i am atheist, cos i see my religious friends and they have really weird opinions of things that are warped by the church. and to to other person: I have to agree, Meaning of Life is the best song = overburdened

Its worth remembering that all reviews are subjective and if you genuinely enjoy the song then bad reviews shouldnt get to you... unless of course theres the dispicable niggling doubt in the back of your mind that you arent enjoying it as much as you think you are... a doubt that wont go away no matter how much you beat it with the wet flannel of weak excuses... so if you like it thats cool... if you dont thats cool too

personally i think this is a brilliant song... has a great rythm and the vocals are excellent, i think for the more conservative the lyrics would be a bother but all i have to say to that is if you dont like it then dont listen to it

WATER DROPLITS | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/23/10

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, you people are annoying! I agree, interpret the song however you want to, just don't get stupid with it! By the way, I am a devoted Christian that loves great METAL or ROCK like Disturbed. I'm not saying this song is religious, but it can be interpreted as.

HMmm i think there is a literal meaning | Reviewer: Like-this | 1/30/10

well i think this is much like poetry, where there is either a literal or deep meaning to it(or both) the literal meaning is of a guy who lived life as though it were a game and then i guess on judgment day or w/e he was sentenced as being evil and messing around in life. Also where its all like blind leading the blind-that is actually todays world whether you accept it or not. Billions of people are taught and told things and just accept it without even second guessing most of it, so in a sense this man was probably one of those people

P.S yes i am religious
PP.S-Hell does not exist, it was simply created by the Church to scare people into Christianity(which is wrong). What people think is hell or all that fire and brimstone is the second death, and its not eternal either, the bible says anyone who goes there will be destroyed and it will be as if they were never there.

JEEEZ people should really question more often, there Are real good Christians and then there are the people who claim to be but really arent

beautiful song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/27/09

i just cant believe how amazing this song is. it actually makes me cry, it is just such a beautiful song. and people shut the hell up it has a different meaning to everyone, stop complaining, and just enjoy the goddamn song because it is a great song with alot of meaning and depth.

I agree | Reviewer: ZheDylan | 12/13/09

I totally agree with the guy who wrote this:
''i hate it when people flip out and act self righteous about song meanings. if they didnt want it to be ambiguous they would just tell you what it means. why not let people think it means whatever affects them the most? look how many people love this song for different reasons. dont ruin it for them by being a technical asshole''

everyone has their own thoughts of a song.

Blah Blah Blah | Reviewer: Darkive | 11/2/09

this song is about how screwed up the world is. people are literally waiting in line to get to HELL cause its better than THIS! people are getting dumber by the second and all anyone cares about is themselves. AMEN!

religion? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/26/09

This obviously has nothing to do with religion, so he mentions hell that makes it religious? It's about being disillusioned with life, feeling like you're being led to nothing despite trying so hard to get something out of life.
