Over the hills and far away Lyrics

Performed by Led Zeppelin
Review The Song (41)

Hey Lady, you got the love I need,
May Be, more than enough.
Oh, Darlin', Darlin', Darlin', walk a while with me,
Oh, you got so much, so much, so much.

Many have I loved, and many times been bitten,
many times I've gazed along the open road.

Many times I've lied and many times I've listened,
many times I've wondered how much there is to know.

Many dreams come true and some have silver linings
I live for my dream and a pocketful of gold.

Mellow is the man who knows what he's been missin',
many many men can't see the open road.

Many is a word that only leaves you guessin',
Guessin' 'bout a thing you really ought to know.
You really ought to know.
I really ought to know.

This song is the friendliest punch in the gut I've ever heard. I would definitely recommend checking out the version recorded on their "How the West Was Won" live set. Zeppelin possessed unearthly powers. It's really incredible they existed on the same planet that has bands like Hollywood Undead nowadays.

I remember I discovered this song when I was in love with this girl.
I wanted to dedicate this to her. But she has a boyfriend now. She tells me I should see some other girls.
But im one of those guys who cant see the open road.

This song wont let me get over her because of its pure amazingness. It never gets old, and everytime I listen to it, it always brings me back to her.
Long Live Zeppelin </33

OVER THE HILLS AND FAR AWAY | Reviewer: Dr. Eustaquio Kirby, D.P.T. | 4/23/11

Oh so very long ago it seems when I first heard Led Zeppelin! When after about a year since I had immigrated to the USA from Mexico, that is to say in 1970. An amigo of mine had the records of Led Zeppelin I, Led Zeppelin II, and the (then) brand new Led Zeppelin III. I had of course heard some rock songs in English in Mexico before then (ergo The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and the Doors, etc.)But never before that time had I heard music such as Led Zeppelin made! It was as if they had really grabbed that part of me that was born in another land-and yet had come into a new land to make a new beginning as well. With their subsequent LP releases they continued in that vein and carried onward with their tunes as I carried on with life and family of my own as well. For that I will remain most grateful forever for those Bluesy English Electrified Folk Tunes of Led Zeppelin!

I am tired of people saying that Led Zeppelin is the greatest band of all time. I do not care at all about all of your opinions. Zeppelin is my favorite band. is it the greatest? NO! Led Zeppelin made some music that changed my life. I love them and hope that they will never be forgotten. LONG LIVE LED ZEPPELIN. LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!

Amazing | Reviewer: Hip-hop Anonymous | 1/19/10

I absolutely love Led Zeppelin's music, and I still am amazed. Ironically, I first heard their music when I was reading about supposed 'satanic messages'. Still, I get goosebumps when I listen to Stairway to Heaven, but in a good way. 'Over the Hills and Far Away' is my second favourite song by them.

it seems to me like this song is a metaphor for openmindedness. i.e. too many men can't see the open road... many many eoiple don't open their minds to infinite possibility, and instead restirct themselves to single and limited, yet unproven, definitions. Te be openminded is to overcome these barriers, or limits, or HILLS, and see the incredible land that their could be

Zeppelin is the best band ever to grace the stage and induce the roar of an audience. They were and always will be the fathers of all modern music. this song is a perfect example. The musical stylings of Jimmy Page (Spelled P. A.G. E., Pronounced GOD) on the guitar and the grooving beat of John Paul Jones down on the bass is perfectly blended with the eternal beat of John 'Bonzo' Bonham(god rest his soul, where ever he may be ramblin') just fits perfectly with Robert Plant's Amazing singing. I'm only 14, yet these guys are one of my favorite bands of all time.

P.S. the "Mud Shark" incident is FUNNY AS SH!t

The next song | Reviewer: Marlene Hoeft | 1/22/09

I am a great fan of Tolkien and have always enjoyed Led Zeppelin's songs that reference his works. Michael, I think the next song in the story is "Ramble On" since it speaks of adventure in "the darkest depths of Mordor."

call me crazy but i may have just disccovered something...
in misty mountain hop, it basically discribes the beginning of Tolkein's The Hobbit with Gandalf coming to ask Bilbo on the adventure

well at the end of the song it mentions over the hills... maybe they were trying to say something
maybe they were hinting that the story continues in the song over the hills... and far away
looking at the lyrics it kind makes sense
it describes basically wandering down the road considering things, encountering things
this is the main part of the hobbit then
it says "i live for my dreams and a pocket full of gold" this might be describing the goal which is to slay the dragon who is guarding the gold but it may also be describing the ring as bilbo has the ring in his pocket throughtout the book
idk just something to consider i couldn't find a hint at what the next song in the story would be

amazing. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/6/08

The feeling I get when I listen to Zeppelin is beyond what I could even try and put into words. I don't go a day without having one of their songs in my head.. Their songs are the repeating soundtrack of my life. Ask me what Led Zeppelin song I had in my head the day I met you. Out of all of Zeppelin's amazing songs, Over the Hills and Far Away and The Rain Song are my absolute favorites. I recommend Led Zeppelin to anyone of any age..
