Operator (That's Not The Way It Feels) Lyrics - Jim Croce

Review The Song (3)

Operator, oh could you help me place this call
You see the number on the matchbook is old and faded
She's livin' in L.A.
With my best old ex-friend Ray
A guy she said she knew well and sometimes hated

Isn't that the way they say it goes
But let's forget all that
And give me the number if you can find it
So I can call just to tell them I'm fine and to show
I've overcome the blow
I've learned to take it well
I only wish my words could just convince myself
***That it just wasn't real***
But that's not the way it feels

Operator, oh could you help me place this call
'Cause I can't read the number that you just gave me
sponsored links
There's something in my eye's
You know it happens every time
I think about the love that I thought would save me

Isn't that the way they say it goes
But let's forget all that
And give me the number if you can find it
So I can call just to tell them I'm fine and to show
I've overcome the blow
I've learned to take it well
I only wish my words could just convince myself
That it just wasn't real
But that's not the way it feels

No no no no
Thats not the way it feels
Operator oh let's forget about this call
There's no one there I really wanted to talk to
Thank you for your time
Oh you've been so much more than kind
And you can keep the dime

Isn't that the way they say it goes
But let's forget all that
And give me the number if you can find it
So I can call just to tell them I'm fine and to show
I've overcome the blow
I've learned to take it well
I only wish my words could just convince myself
That it just wasn't real
But that's not the way it feels

One of the greatest... | Reviewer: Frank | 4/21/11

Jim Croce was one of the greatest story-tellers of his generation. I never get tired of his music. It's a shame he died so young. Just based on the body of work he left us, can you only imagine the songs that were left unwritten. A tragedy.

Croce was the best | Reviewer: Andre98 | 2/19/09

I can recall just where I was when this song was hot. It's a haunting melody, a classic. It's so sad he died so young. I was never a big fan of "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown, or "You Don't Mess around with Jim", but I can never get tired of hearing this song, and "I Have to Say I Love You In A Song" and of course, "Time In A Bottle"

truth | Reviewer: matt | 1/17/08

The saddest thing is this is a true story. He came back from the army and his woman left him for his best friend. The man was only 30 when he died, and yet his life was still full of the pain that an 80 year old man feels through his years. Fucked up......
