One Direction is a five-member boy band made up of Liam Payne, a music technology student at City of Wolverhampton College (born in Wolverhampton on 29 August 1993), Louis Tomlinson, 18, (from Doncaster), a student at Hall Cross School Niall Horan, 17, (from Mullingar, Westmeath, Ireland), a student at Coláiste Mhuire, Mullingar. Harry Styles, 16, (from Holmes Chapel, Cheshire) a student at Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School and Zain Malik, 17 (from East Bowling, Bradford). They applied as solo candidates to the competition, but the judges, after a suggestion by Cowell, put them in a band, qualifying for the Groups category.
Payne had auditioned in 2008 to The X Factor's fifth series when he was 14 and reached judges' houses, but Cowell thought he was not ready for the competition and asked him to come back after two years. This time Cowell chose him to be part of One Direction. Styles was the lead singer for the band White Eskimo with band members lead guitarist Haydn Morris, bass guitarist Nick Clough and drummer Will Sweeney. Malik, a Muslim, was noted for becoming nervous in bootcamp, when he was told he had to dance, and decided to remain backstage effectively running the risk of elimination. Cowell noticed Malik missing from the dance routine and went backstage to convince him to return.
For their qualifying song, One Direction's first ever song together, they sang an acoustic version of Ednaswap's "Torn" made famous by Natalie Imbruglia. In week 1 of the live shows, they performed Coldplay's "Viva la Vida" and were safe for the week.

ONE DIRECTION is my favorite boyband.. I have thier album the Up All Night and Take Me Home! I liked Their songs their attitude most of all.. I admire them because they are showing their fans who they really are, they are not trying to be someone elese, they are just being their selves. They gave me a lesson and that's being true to your self and to other people! :)

I personally love One Direction!! They are amazing. When I heard about this girl that went to a meet and greet and she told Niall to leave her picture I thought that was horrible. We know he was very upset about that. She should have respect and like them all they are all equally talented and amazing. If I was Niall I would have been devistated. She then said that Niall should just leave the group because he is no good!! Girl no you messed up in that one. They are all amazing and he has just as much right to be apart of that band as therest of them. Not one of them is better than each other. The good part is Niall may have been upset about this but he had some amazing friends to help him and be there for him!! And for all the directioners who went to Nialls brother wedding just to meet Niall have some respect that was so rude!!! I've always wanted to go to a concert and meet them and can't afford it. But you don't see me going and crashing a very important part of someone's life to meet Niall. I love one direction and I'm a directioners myself but some people need to have respect. That girl who talked about Niall said she was a directioner but clearly she wasn't because if she was she wouldn't have favoried all the others. Their all amazing equally and are amazingly talented!! Just please remember have respect for their personally lives and quit hating!!

One direction is the most awesomest band in the entire world!! They r the 5 people in the world who make my heart beat fast and slow at the same time! They make me cry but also make me smile!:-) i can't imagine life without them. My day starts with and ends with them. Its soooooo surreal what just thinkin abt them can do to me. And just being able to think abt them and listen to their music gives me a place that i never want to leave! I really look up to them and hope they know wat they really mean to me and the zillions of fans that they hav. They're so down to earth, humble, fun and just like normal boys. But they aren't normal! They're one direction! Their music is simply wat they feel and the slow songs make me cry! The up beat songs make me smile. As to who is my favourite...thats impossible! How can u choose between 5 of the most amazing people in the world! All of them r amazing and choosing is just stupid! I wil always love one direction! No matter wat!
