Old Yellow Bricks Lyrics - Arctic Monkeys

Review The Song (4)

Old yellow bricks,
Love's a risk,
Quite the little Escapologist
Looked so miffed,
When you wished,
For a thousand places better than this,

You are the fugitive,
But you dont know what you're runnin from,
You cant kid us,
And you couldnt trick anyone,
Houdini, love you dont know what you're runnin away from,

Who wants to sleep in the city that never wakes up?
Blinded by nostalgia,
Who wants to sleep in the city that never wakes up?

She was enraged by the way,
That the emperor put traps in the cage,
sponsored links
And the days she being dull,
Lead to nights readin beer bottles,

You're such a fugitive,
But you dont know what you're runnin from,
You cant kid us,
And you couldnt trick anyone,
Houdini, love you dont know what you're runnin away from,

Who wants to sleep in the city that never wakes up?
Blinded by nostalgia,
Who wants to sleep in a city that never wakes up?

You're at a loss,
Just because,
It wasnt all that you thought it was,

You are a fugitive but you dont know what you're runnin away from,

She said I want to sleep in the city that never wakes up,
And revel in nostalgia,
I know I said he wants to sleep in the city that never wakes up but,
Dorothy was right though

There's a Wizard of Oz reference if I ever saw one. The title obviously refers to the Yellow Brick Road and he even uses Dorothy's name. When he says she was right, he must be referring to when she said "there's no place like home". Once you know that you can see exactly what the song is about if it wasn't already obvious enough.

British bands are too fantastic for their own good. Arctic Monkeys, Blur and Radiohead all have a way with lyrics, making them interesting and meaningful.

Arctic Monkeys in particular have a talent for making every line run through the floor and straight to your bones. They play the words like a separate instrument. It's not so much the depth of the lyrics, but the way they organize them and make them sound. Makes people want to dance or at least nod their heads in time with the beat.

Or maybe I'm just confusedly gushing over Alex Turner's awesome accent. Whatever. >_>;

Now if only there were more of a variety in the topics of their songs...
