Not A Job Lyrics
Artist(Band):Elbow
Pull the final splinters
Of missing picture winters
You have to give yourself a break
What's the fascination
With lovers at the station
You have to tear yourself away
Chorus
The dream again nobody understands
Walking through the long grass on your hands
It's not a job to do today
Sleep it off
Words to make her stay: you said
Leave me and the plants die
A panic smile across your face
Corrugated browline
The hissing bitter punchline
Call when you can tie your lace
You rule my world my brother
You rule my world compare

Review about Not A Job
Innocence and pain | Reviewer: Yke | 2/11/2005What I like about this song is the childish optimistic sound of it, together with the old pain of the "bitter punch lines". It's all about not becoming a cynic or even about releasing one self from it. Things keep a "breeze", nothing's getting solid. There is always that spark of hope, openness toward things to come. "Walking through the long grass on your hands" It's "simply" brilliant, like many of the Elbow lyrics.
My favourite is still Scattered Black And Whites.
