No Surprises Lyrics
Artist(Band):Radiohead
A heart that's full up like a landfill,
a job that slowly kills you,
bruises that won't heal.
You look so tired-unhappy,
bring down the government,
they don't, they don't speak for us.
I'll take a quiet life,
a handshake of carbon monoxide,
with no alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises,
Silence, silence.
This is my final fit,
my final bellyache,
with no alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises please.
Such a pretty house
and such a pretty garden.
No alarms and no surprises (get me outta here),
no alarms and no surprises (get me outta here),
no alarms and no surprises, please.

Review about No Surprises
Its about suicide | Reviewer: nuckingfutter | 6/27/09
it is about suicide, he saying his heart is full, he has bruises theat wont heal and he has a job that is killing him so he will take a carbon monoxide handshake instead, you cant get more clear about suicide than that. knowing 3 people that have commited suicide and that was how they were feeling its pretty clear to me.
dont be a bitch | Reviewer: Sarah | 6/12/09
Everyone is entitled to thier own opinion here. Music is made to be enjoyed and interpreted however the listener feels they can relate to best. There is no wrong meaning to the song, even if it may not be how the writer felt when making it.
Nobody's opinion is "wrong" so dont put them down for voicing thier poin of view :)
I agree | Reviewer: Oli Outrageous | 5/31/09
I agree with Scott, the song is about how Radiohead believes that by settling down and following the system you are slowly killing yourself because by conforming with the norm, you are detroying your indivduality/soul.
a correction | Reviewer: Scott | 4/27/09
In response to one of the other posters, it's not about killing yourself OR settling down, because what Radiohead is trying to say is that settling for that mundane life IS killing yourself, slowly and surely. It's living life without any greater meaning.
hmm | Reviewer: lydia | 4/15/09
it's so obviously about suicide. all you people trying to make out its about living the 'perfect' life. it's got nothing to do with that. surely you're not so simple minded to not see that the song seems to be about suicide.
"This is my final fit,
my final bellyache."
after all their 'bruises that wont heal', their finishing everything. thats what i thought from the second i saw it.
Watch the making of the video | Reviewer: Lee | 4/2/09
I was watching a movie about the tour they did to support OK Computer. They had the making of the music video for 'No surprises'. Thom has to do about 15 takes for the video. The water filled up, but Thom didn't have enough air to hold for the entire song.
At one time, you see Thom start cursing as the water is flushed out of the tank. He was really frustrated by doing the video.
I can't imagine trying to hold your air that long.
It is a great song for sure. You have to really listen, is it killing yourself or surrendering to the world?

Me again... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/2/09
seems i was so upset about the people who bash Radiohead, i never even said what i think this song means, at least to me...
i believe its a peaceful acceptance of the notion and truth of the end of all things, and a quiet resignation of power over your life. in any interview that you can read about Thom Yorke and the rest of Radiohead, they always decline any reposibility and refuse any praise for the son, usually saying that they write themselves...
i think this song is more about the hope that when you die, and through your life, there's nothing that makes the world just drop out from under you, or any crazy amounts of anxiety... i don't know, i think its more of a life comment than a government comment
long live radiohead! | Reviewer: daysi | 3/27/09
this song is a piece of art.
i agree with you i am a teenager and i love radiohead because of the impact they produce and complex songs that they have.. the meaning of the song for all of us is different but i think most of here agree that radiohead is a great band..
erin im so sorry for your lost.. and i totally share ur way of thinking..

No Surprises | Reviewer: Paul | 3/6/09
I think this song is is about selling out and making a deal with capitalim in order to live the perfect, "safe" life, "handshake with carbon monoxide" could imply sitting in traffic to attain such a dreaam, it could also be an acknowldgement to the cylic end of the oil and automobbile industry,
i cant believe u people! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/14/09
what the hell is wrong with those of you that decided to write about how this band is all geared towards money?! have you even listened to one of their songs?! not exactly the simple get in, get out, get paid approach most 'artists' use today! and i believe that i am one of the few teenagers to actually listen to a band like this! i enjoy looking at the son, and taking from it what i will. THIS makes radiohead songs art, and makes them true artists. i'm sick of all you pricks out there picking apart a song that you don't like.... STOP LISTENING AND DON'T POST!!!! how much must your life suck that you decide to try to pass the time by giving hate to those who are actually MAKING something of themselves. let's see you lay yourself as bare as Radiohead does and allow the world to take a peek into your thoughts and emotions, making YOU vulnerable to their criticism... let's see you try that out and see how you make out!
and Erin, i completely agree with your view on music, and i wish you had not been insulted by someone ignorant enough to think that by mentioning you were a musician, you were trying to get your name out there... idiots. i am very sorry for your loss.
so, if you do not like radiohead, and would like to share it with others, then shut up, we don't want to hear it... if you hate it so much, why did you look up the lyrics dumbass!!!
