Nine In The Afternoon Lyrics - Panic! At The Disco

Review The Song (45)

Back to the street where we began
Feeling as good as lovers can, you know
Yeah we're feeling so good

Pickin' up things we shouldn't read
It looks like the end of history as we know
It's just the end of the world

Back to the street where we began
Feeling as good as love, you could, you can

Into a place where thoughts can bloom
Into a room where it's nine in the afternoon
And we know that it could be
And we know that it should
And you know that you feel it too
'Cause it's nine in the afternoon

And your eyes are the size of the moon
You could 'cause you can so you do
sponsored links
We're feeling so good
just the way that we do
When it's nine in the afternoon

Your eyes are the size of the moon
You could 'cause you can so you do
We're feeling so good

Back to the street
Down to our feet
Losing the feeling of feeling unique
Do you know what I mean?

Back to the place
Where we used to say
Man it feels good to feel this way
Now I know what I mean

Back to the street, back to the place,
Back to the room where it all began, hey
Back to the room where it all began
'Cause it's nine in the afternoon

Your eyes are the size of the moon
You could 'cause you can so you do
We're feeling so good
Just the way that we do
When it's nine in the afternoon

Just because they sound like the beatles doesn't mean that they are trying "too hard" the beatles inspired them! and yes this song is good, if you dont like patd then why did you even pull up this page in the first place?

Why do you think EVERYTHING is about drugs? | Reviewer: Ky | 8/24/11

Is drugs the only thing on the mind of adolescent children today? I dont think its about drugs at all. My interpretation is as follows: From what I understand about the delay of the new album, the band had secluded themselves in a cabin to write new songs. They were not happy with what they had come up with so they went back to their home town. It was there that the inspiration came to them "Back to the street where we began" referring to their hometown, where they wrote the first album. The title, Nine in the Afternoon, is such because when they started writing and were 'on a roll', they were in a room and not with the outside world. Therefore, the time may as well be nine in the afternoon, which doesn't exist.
Also, "Into a place, where thoughts can bloom
Into a room where it's nine in the afternoon
And we know that it could be..." where the "thoughts can bloom" is the band actually being able to write songs. They are now in a place where the lyrics, ideas, and music are coming to them.
Long story short, I think this song is about the band finally coming up with songs they approve of to be on their new album. See that complete makes sense, and its not about drugs. Think about it. NOT EVERYTHING IS ABOUT FRUGS, bubs.

Juliet is wrong | Reviewer: drugs | 3/21/11

first off, who cares if its about drugs. its a catchy tune. second, juliet, you are wrong. a lot of musicians write about drugs including the X pill. just listen to a lot of classic rock: heres som examples, "Cocaine" by clapton, "misty mountain hop" by zeppelin, "purple haze" hendrix, "who says" by john mayer.. artists write about drugs and whatever else influences them.

NOT ABOUT DRUGS! | Reviewer: juliet | 2/16/11

IT's not about drugs. Bands are artists. They have very creative minds. I once dated a guitar player who had very weird daydreams about crazy things like this. It's perfectly normal for someone to think this way without being on drugs. Plus, who would wanna write about ecstasy?!

First off, love the song. Happy, upbeat, great. :D
Buuuuuuuttttt... This sounds a bit too Beatles-esque at parts. PATD are good, but sometimes they try too hard to be the Beatles of this generation.
And maybe it's just me, but this song really scares me. I agree that this song is probably about drug use, but subtle diction leads me to think it has hidden bitter, almost angry, tones...

NIne it the Afternoon | Reviewer: Carley | 1/24/11

Everyone has their opinion about music, and what songs mean.
don't go around saying: You don't like PATD, I hate you. You probably don't even know them!

And for those PATD haters, If you don't like PATD then don't search their songs.

Personally I love this song. The band didn't try to make it make sense!
It is either about drugs, and things don't make much sense when you take drugs. Or it is about random dreams (well the video is).
9 in the afternoon isn't supposed to be a real time. Especially when you are high, or asleep.

Drugs. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/14/11

This song is about doing drugs. I have heard some explanations stating that ecstasy was the drug used as described by the lyric that says
"Feeling as good as lovers can, you know
Yeah we're feeling so good"
I think it may be referring to a psychedelic, presumably magic mushrooms. Everyone already knows the eyes are the size of the moon. (duh, that's drugs right there)
This line here
"Pickin’ up things we shouldn’t read
It looks like the end of history as we know
It’s just the end of the world"
gives me strong reason to believe that it is indeed about tripping on shrooms. Magic mushrooms expand the mind, just like reading does. You "Shouldn't read" them because they are illegal. This verse
"Back to the street
Down to our feet
Losing the feeling of feeling unique
Do you know what I mean?"
describes either the come down or some crippling revelation whilst under the influence. Finally, this verse
"Back to the street, back to the place,
Back to the room where it all began, hey
Back to the room where it all began
'Cause it's nine in the afternoon"
describes a usual occurrence that shroom trippers experience. Usually if you are tripping and you are in a room or a certain place and not so adventurous until the trip has started or you just choose to trip in the room and then go to some other room or outside or wherever, you almost always go back to the room where "It began"

Wow. I don't normally post things on the internet, but this seriously annoyed me. What is with all you people going off at each other? Do you even know eachother?? Why don't you respect other people musical opinion? And if you don't agree with someones comment, just ignore it! There's no need to go nuts because someone doesn't like PATD.
:\ Everyone just calm down! XD

This song is about drugs? | Reviewer: Walker Tee Stalker | 5/1/10

Someone please, i need help. I'm starting to believe my frend just a little bit. She says this song is about drugs. As much as I don't wanna believe her, I looked at the lyrics more closely and it is starting to make sense. Back to the street were we began is were you get drugs in the street.Loosing the feeling: YOu lose your feeling when you do drugs. And your eyes get big when youd do drugs and you stay up a long time like ( 9 THE AFTERNOON) Someone tell me this ins;t true so i can shove this in her face!

Ur All Dumb Read this. | Reviewer: The Punisher | 4/18/10

Ur All Dumb, first of all who are you to be calling anyone a bitch for voicing opinions? You sir should mature,it's people like you that piss me off.You sir are an idiot,of the highest caliber.be respectful if u want to be respected and not thought to be a 12 year old, even though you appear to be so.The beatles wore costumes, were they childish?I respect what panic has tried to do with this album, which is in a lot of ways, influenced by the beatles. They are trying to bring that beatles energy to the band's style, mostly appearence wise.Gwar wears costumes, marilyn manson dresses up as a lady, kiss had make up does that make them childish? You sir have to learn how to talk like a grown up,just cuz u liked the band and they changed style does not mean you can come here calling people bitch or anything of that way, shape or form.if you think they are childish fine, say so,but with out offending anybody who does not think so.not attacking you, just defending the right to free speech.
