Night On the Sun Lyrics - Modest Mouse

Review The Song (8)

So, turn off the light 'cause it's night on the sun
You're hopelessly hopeless
I hope so, for you
Freeze your blood and then stab it into in two
Stab your blood into me and blend
I eat my own blood and get filled I get filled up;
I get filled up on me and end so turn off the light
'cause it's night on the sun you're hopelessly hopeless
I hope so, for you
Turn off the light 'cause it's night on the sun
You're hopelessly hopeless
I hope so, for you
Freeze your blood and then stab it into in two
Stab your blood into me and end
I eat my own blood and get filled up I get filled up
I get filled up on me and end

Well there's one thing to know about this town
It's five hundred miles underground; it's alright, It's alright,
Well there's one thing to know about this globe
It's bound and it's willing to explode. it's alright, it's alright, it's alright,it's alright.
Well there's one thing to know about this town
Not a person doesn't want me underground that's alright,that's alright, that's alright
There's one thing to know about this town
It's five hundred miles underground; and that's ok, that's alright' that's alright.
There's one thing to know about this earth
We're put here just to make more dirt; and that's ok, that's alright, that's alright.
Well there's one thing to know about this globe

My Interpretation of Night on the Sun | Reviewer: ChrisV | 6/7/11

yea this song is melancholy to me, when he says freeze your blood and stab it into me, i get filled up on me and end, it makes me think about transitions of life, how we are all apart of a multiplying organism that dies but breeds new life, then when he says this town is 500 miles underground, not a person doesn't want me underground, it seems like how people take advantage of each other - but it's transcending cynicism with the reality of how people operate in society, life feeds on life and not coincidently people take advantage of each other weather in a mutually gainful way or not isn't what matters rather the projected consequence or gain from an action and everyone is looking to gain from eachother, so it's like this town is gone underground 500 miles being like hyperbole, so he's saying that's allright because that's just the way the universe is, we live on this fragile earth that can end anytime. and we exist for no reason other than just to exist in it as the drama of our existence plays out. and that's allright cause that's the way the universe phenomenally exists, which is pretty deep, trying to accept that everything will come to it's eventual demise but be ok with that fact on the basis that we aren't the center of the universe rather just a piece of the picture. really good song, rock on modest mouse!!

TrueBlood's Producers Need To Use This | Reviewer: Ankhorite | 5/31/11

I know that the HBO "Trueblood" series used a country-fied version of this as background music in Season 3, but they really really really need to use the original as music over the closing credits. :)

Ironic | Reviewer: Fred | 1/20/11

Ironic that the subject of the song is that theres no subject to anything. Sometimes I wonder what Isaac Brock would say about his songs, specifically. Probably something really simple that doesn't say much, cause he wants us to make the meanings. This song he probably would. You say heaven is just a place in your head? So is Hell. So is everything really, I mean there's obviously matter and space, but really the only "meaning" to anything is the meaning we assign it. Maybe that's the point of this pointless song? Aw fuck it. It's damn good music however you slice it.

Nice | Reviewer: Dan | 4/19/09

This song reminds me of moving from Long Island to upstate NY, how bittersweet things were, how extremely mediocre it is, how bittersweet everything is, and mediocre everything is. I guess heaven is a place inside ur head..

amazing things... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/17/09

i think this song has a lot to do about the reason of human life before and after saying when the sun burns out we are going under ground and it dosn't matter what people think yet i am going to live and people are here for no purpose but to serve each other and were put on earth for no purpose. just my opinion..

I believe that this song is all about the sun and if there were human life on it. As well as if the sun had expired and the life-forms were forced to move underground. This is of course, is my personal opinion on this song.

thanks for that. i get it now. at first i was pretty put off by the lyrics, i have to admit. i first loved the song because of the way it sounded, not listening to what it said.

but yeah, i think you're right. i think that humanizing quality largely comes from the performance in the vocals, but yeah, spot on.

It shimmers and shines | Reviewer: Repstock | 2/2/08

A beautiful song from Modest Mouse that has such an upliftig sound to it. It certainly has that Moon & Antarctica atmosphere; I wonder why they didn't actually put it on the album, I'd consider it the best track if they had. It has a humanzing quality in its lyricism, talking about the universal, cosmic equation and how that can be, at times, rather alienating when you're just a human being, but that's alright, because I'm okay with just being here to make more dirt; that's ok; night on the sun...
