Review The Song (12)Print the Lyrics
Lay back baby and we’ll do this right
There’s blankets in back we can use
I’ll start the car, but we’ll stay in park
the cold can kill us before fumes
Now’s the right time for a good song
Got something to say what I can’t
Do you feel bad, like I feel bad?
pour us a road, we’ll both drink and drive

Kiss me with your cherry lipstick
Never wash you off my face
Hit me I can take your cheap shots
leave you with the love we made

Come alive on the driver’s side
So close I taste your breath
Your lips go dry, but they’re sweet inside
wine must go right to your head
It’d be easy if you get mad
But three fingers point back to you
We could stay here
Stay out all night
No one will know
Us and the moonlight

Kiss me with your cherry lipstick
Never wash you off my face
Hit me, I can take your cheap shots
Leave you with the love we made

I set my watch by a street-side clock
a Needle in echo groove
You pierce my heart like a willing arm
Your ticking makes my blood move
There’s no way out
This fade out
Be Happy to get what you do
Make him notice
With both fists
Cause' quiting alone will never get you dry

Never get you dry

Give Me Everything You Got Now
I don’t feel a single thing
Drag me out into the cold rain
Let it hover over me
Kiss me with your cherry lipstick
Never wash you off my face
Hit me, I can take your cheap shots
Leave you with the love we made

Hit me, I can take your cheap shot
Leave you with the love we made

Hit me, I can take your cheap shot
Leave you with the love we made

Review about Night Drive

Broken Relationship | Reviewer: Fusion | 11/20/2008

I think that any song can hold various meanings depending on its listener. That is what makes it art.

My personal feelings toward this song are that it is written about love lost. Two people who want to be together but for whatever reason can't rondevous late at night. Maybe they each have significant others at this point but still hold that special love for each other. "Kiss me with your cherry lipstick / Never wash you off my face." Those lyrics elicit an emotion that the guy has wanted to be with the girl again for a long time and knows he can't have her so he wants to remember the night always. "Hit me I can take your cheap shots / Leave you with the love we made" makes me think that despite being hurt or betrayed by the girl, he loves her still and knows she truly loves him too, and will make love to her because that's all that can express his love at this point. At the end the reality that there can never be anything long term and it's sad. "Quitting alone will never get you dry" doesn't have to be about sex, it can be about the two people never truly giving up on eachother, they act as a crutch, so like alcoholics, they can never get "dry" or sober. It's romantic more so than sexual.

ha | Reviewer: brittany | 9/9/2008

this song, imo, is definitely about having oral sex with someone and being all sneaky-teenager about it. ya know with the cheap beer, parked car, "this is so exciting". i definitely plan to screw to this song one day.

and i really DO NOT think its about suicide (or anything depressing for that matter. just because it SOUNDS sad, doesn't mean anything.

thoughts.. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/18/2007

i think the line "It’d be easy if you get mad
But three fingers point back to you" imply her giving him the finger (her anger once she realizes), but when she does, she will have three fingers pointing back at her, meaning that it was her fault too. he isnt the only one to blame.

Well im not very good at thinking of the meaning's of songs but I love this song so thought i'd give it a go... | Reviewer: Shaun Beale | 8/7/2007

Well yes there is the very obvious view of it being about sex but like a lot of Jimmy Eat Worlds songs I would be lead to believe theres more to it.
"I’ll start the car, but we’ll stay in park the cold can kill us before fumes" For example this could be talking about suicide but because of the general mood of the song I'd hesitate to believe that. Then theres the idea that the girl may not wish to sleep with him and hes trying to convince her its the right thing. "Ill start the car" meaning they've got this far and its about to happen then they stay in park. Nothing happens. Then he goes on to say the cold will kill them before the fumes saying that the actual emotional strain of not going on with it would be more painful than if they were to go ahead.

Then it also says,
"Do you feel bad, like I feel bad?
pour us a road, we’ll both drink and drive" The idea of drink and drive brings to mind the idea of it being forbidden. So perhaps this is a forbidden relationship.

So theres a few of my idea's on the song you can contact me if you ever want to discuss it further ive left my email

-sigh- | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/2/2007

Trying to analyze the lyrics of ANY Jimmy song is completely useless

If you've ever met them, or read their biography on their website you will realize that their lyrics aren't about one thing

Some of them are about personal experiences, but alot of them aren't

Trying to figure it out, will just be a headache, because they don't like to talk about it, and I can understand why

Why can't people just take the song for what it is and appreciate it? Why does everyone have to analyze everything? Who cares if you don't know what it means? Making sense of it will be more confusing than when you started

thanks | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/27/2007

that was a great explanation and i can really relate to it, --so thanks!

The correct analysis of the song; I met JEW and asked him. | Reviewer: JC | 4/19/2007

The song is about a young man and a virgin girl having sex in the back seat of his car. Presumably the young man is not a virgin because he is narrating the song and it is evident he understand the emotional significance of what is about to happen.

"Kiss me with your cherry lipstick"--- the cherry is a reference to the innuendo of a cherry as a hymand.

The first two verses of the song are the setting. A car in a secluded area, two kids in the backseat and cheap wine to loosen the tenseness. “Wine must go straight to your head” suggests the girl’s naivete, innocence and youth.

"Do you feel bad like I feel bad?" is the young man expressing guilt and hesitation in taking the girl’s virginity. He knows both the significance of this act and understands that they do not love each other as they ideally should for something like this.

“You pierce my heart like a willing arm/Your ticking makes my blood move” The description of piercing his heart is a metaphor for the indelible mark they are making on each other. “…blood move” is passion, of course. It can also refer to an erection.

He's acknowledging the emotional messiness of this with "There’s no way out/This fade out/Be Happy to get what you do" The idea being is this deed is too far into being done for them to stop now, but even as it happens he comprehends the significance of it, and so he resolves "be happy to get what you do", full well knowing that this girl will only later realize what has taken place between them.

“Make him notice/With both fists/Cause' quitting alone will never get you dry” These lines refer to some emotional hurt this girl has, presumably with a male figure in her life. Perhaps an absent father. The implication is that she is doing this, losing her innocence so carelessly, because she is angry at this male figure.

Now read the song’s final lines: “Give Me Everything You Got Now/I don’t feel a single thing/Drag me out into the cold rain/Let it hover over me/Kiss me with your cherry lipstick/Never wash you off my face/Hit me, I can take your cheap shots/Leave you with the love we made”

The young man begins with “Give Me Everything You Got Now”. The intensity of the words is almost orgasmic. We can assume that he is feeling some great emotion at any rate. The words become phantasmagorical at this point as he proclaims “I don’t feel a single thing” it is clearly a moment of some sort of passion. “Drag me out into the cold rain/let it hover over me” fit the intensity of a very emotional orgasm, as if to sow up all his emotional conflict and desire into two lines. He then returns to kissing and cherry lipstick, emphasizing that she is no longer a virgin with the words “Never wash you off my face.” Here is his proclamation to the girl, “We will always remember this.” The line “Hit me, I can take your cheep shot” is his recognition that the girl will perhaps someday bear some resentment towards him when she realizes how momentous this was.
And so he very emotionally concludes with a terminal and fated sentence, “Leave you with the love we made”, expressing the inevitable end to their relationship and the significance of it.

answer 2 the questions | Reviewer: C-jack | 3/10/2007

First the "Cause' quiting alone will never get you dry" means that if she leaves now and quits (b4 the peek of sex)then she will always think about it and thus always b wet. Also u should be able 2 tell from the mellow sound of the song that it is not about rape and u r thinking way 2 hard about it, or u r taking this song out of context.

amazing. | Reviewer: alicia | 2/26/2007

Well, I just thought this song was about a boy and a girl who drank and then got into the car to pull off somewhere and have sex. I thought it was about love, but after reading the review above me, I am persuaded to think differently. Well anyways, the song is great.

Rape | Reviewer: unknown | 12/3/2006

I think it's about kinda rape, It's killing me that I don't really understand it. But, I think it's start off as being drunk and getting in a car, and then it turns into rape because the girl doesn't like it. o-o; -using the lyrcs to make her point-

Do you feel bad, like I feel bad?
pour us a road, we’ll both drink and drive- I’m going to hint, that it a drinking and they don’t really know each other. O-o; But then that is ruin with -Now’s the right time for a good song
Got something to say what I can’t.

Hit me I can take your cheap shots- hitting him
leave you with the love we made- if it was rape, It means like she’s stuck with it forever.

It’d be easy if you get mad
But three fingers point back to you- That could mean she left /with/ him.

I set my watch by a street-side clock
a Needle in echo groove
You pierce my heart like a willing arm
Your ticking makes my blood move
There’s no way out
This fade out
Be Happy to get what you do
Make him notice
Cause' quiting alone will never get you dry- To me, this is describing rape.Yaeh.

o-o Anyways, good song.
