I want a god who stays dead
not plays dead
I, even, I, can play dead
I want a god who stays dead
not plays dead
I, even I, can play dead
I want a god who stays dead
not plays dead
I, even I, can play dead

The lyrics may be simple and not provide a biography of Nietzshe, but I think the point is, most people DO only know the guy's name and 'god is dead' and so this song is a response from the popular zeitgeist
amazing. I never understand this songs of them, 'cos I'm not english speaker, these lyrics are amazing, really amazing. It wouldn't say the knowledge of Nietzsche, all of it, but it say something that DW feel important, and the music help to express it, the music have the meaning.

i don't really understand how one could say the warhols didn't respectfully reference nietzsche, this particular famous statement of his is three words. three- simply explained it means 'we've outgrown the need for a god and religion, because god and religion no longer provide the moral structure they once did'. it may require a bit of reading to understand what he means by the statement, but the statement itself is a brilliant example of saying much in very few words. if you look at the lyrics here, it's in the same style. a god who 'plays dead' makes a lot of sense to me these days, and the lyric 'even i can play dead' seems to say that god has been debased due to the fact that he can do nothing more than we can do ourselves.
and besides, defining nietzsche isn't the warhols' job, ultimately it's the listener's. that's how music works. just because they reference god being dead doesn't mean they're cliche or lacking style, it means that nietzsche's words are still alive, even today (and more and more true if you ask me xd).

The music is very good (I love the sound of this group) but I agree with Rodya - given the significance, the breadth, the depth, the wide-ranging impact Nietzsche has on the modern world, and given the opportunity to apply just a taste of that meaning in this song, they completely missed the opportunity, and instead settled for little more than a twisted cliche. Too bad.

I'm not saying it's a bad song, I'm just saying these guys should write their own lyrics, and not make a toddler do it. One thing is beyond all doubt: nietzsche himself, the culture critic, would find this terrible, just Bad. It's a shame his name is misused constantly by people who know nothing bout him except his name and god is dead. Pity
It's an absolutely wonderful and crutial track. It's aimed at being a tribute with the 'most godless' and greater philosopher who ever existed. In fact, it's a sample of the Taylor-Taylor's bitterness about his own relationship with God, and it directly links with the previous track on the CD, 'Godless'. Yeah, it's one of my favourite.
You will get lost in this song. The hypnotic harmonies pour into your ear drums like a cool breeze flowing in off the shore. Full sound, crisp drumming keeps it going, and a great song to make out to. This is my favorite Dandy song, if you haven't heard it, change that asap.
You will get lost in this song... The hypnotizing harmonies are like a cool breeze drifting in from the ocean. Full sound, tight drumming (as with all dandy tunes) and a great song to make out to. This is my favorite Dandy song, if your a fan, you should already know this song well :)
