its obviously a metaphor for life and death. he's saying that life on earth is a game ("now here's the puck, its alright") and that when the scoreboard light goes out, or we die, it doesnt matter what the score was because there isn't even a puck in play. if u listen to the song, its a sweet yet melancholy kind of sing along, like we're all players in the same game, but the buzzer rings for all of us. plus, u can hear regine making buzzer noises in the background, which completes the metaphor.
