Neely O'Hara Lyrics - Bright Eyes
Review The Song (6)
In the morning
When you throw up water
And your skin turns a pale pale yellow
Well everyday you lose more color
Do you think that someone paints your mirror?
So you think that things sound different
At the time when you speak
Well there are visions much clearer than these blurs that you see
And like neely o'hara you swallow your sleep
And wake up in the morning
To find out you are not who you used to be
You don't recognize the behavior
Or the spelling of your name and the shape that is in the mirror
Well you'd swear it is not the same
And like neely o'hara
You swallow your sleep and you really can't remember
sponsored linksBut you know you are not
Think you are not
No you are not who you used to be

sure it's sad and all but it's not about an eating disorder... In The Valley of The Dolls was a book first and Neely O'Hara was a girl who wanted to be a star. She became a star but to cope with the pressures of stardom she started taking pills to go to sleep/lose weight to look "better" for the movies. Eventually she went a bit insane and had to go to rehab and whatnot. this song kinda describes what happened to that character, maybe it has something to do with a friend but I doubt it.

losing yourself | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/21/10
For me, the song is about losing yourself and forgetting who you really are, whether it's to an eating disorder or to some kind of addiction. And the parts about the mirror hit me in a very personal way. This is a truly powerful song.

neely o'hara is a character in the film ''valley of the dolls'' i think. and she basically has a pill/alcohol addiction. great song though, i can also see how some people think it relates to an eating disorder.

this song hits me in the most personal way. while I can see it being about eating disorders, for me it's about drug addiction and depression, and how you completely lose sight of yourself. you don't even remember how you used to be, just that you weren't always like this.
tragic and beautiful | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/21/09
For me this is pretty obviously about someone suffering from an eating disorder. Throwing up water, losing color in the face, and the talk of mirrors...
"Do you think that someone paints your mirror?"
This is one of my favorite lines... when someone with and ED looks in the mirror, they see imperfections. Even when all of their ribs are showing and they look like a skeleton, anywhere where there's not a bone poking through is too fat. It's like someone is painting their mirror.
