Based in New Jersey, My Chemical Romance is an alternative pop/rock and punk-pop band that has been compared to Thursday and, to a lesser degree, Cursive. Many of their songs are loud, fast, hyper, and aggressive, but My Chemical Romance's work also tends to be melodic and pop-minded. My Chemical Romance got started in the early 2000s, when lead singer Gerard Way and drummer Matt Pelissier decided to try writing some songs together. The first tune that Way and Pelissier -- who had been friends since high school -- came up with was called "Skylines and Turnstiles" (a title reflecting the fact that Way had been working in New York City, where he was in the animation field. I'm not an MCR fan, but I do have a problem with a friend who loves the band. Shes been cutting herself, she was emitted to the hospital, and now shes getting professional help. She tried drowning herself, but freaked out, and went back to land. Her mom&dad, and I'm ashamed to say this, but even I, am blaming MCR for it. She told the doctors she cut herself but doesn't know why, she said she has a great life, lots of friends, she loves her family, she cuts herself because it relieves her from stress. She says MCR is the only thing shes got. She makes Youtube videos, which was against her punishment, she got her computer taken away for the first two months of the summer, but snuck on to visit MCR sites, and now shes gother privleges back and shes making Youtube videos about the band. Her dad told me if there was anything I didn't know, to tell them ASAP, they said it'd mean the world to them, and I don't wanna let them down. I know my friends gunna get mad at me if I tell on her for the videos, but I know she'll forgive me eventually. I'd rather her going around hating me for awhile, then going around knowing shes hurting herself. I don't want you guys out there to say I'm dissing on Gerard Way, because I'm not, not even close. I just need some advice from somebody. I've tried everything, I don't enjoy MCR music, only a couple songs, I like Teenagers and Cancer, but those are the only ones I can actually relate to. I tried liking the music, getting into it, for her so we had stuff in common again, but it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. Shes made 6 MCR videos, I told her if she made a 7th, I was gunna call her dad. It feels in my heart like I'm doing the right thing, but.. I'm not so sure. I know MCR has saved a lot of your lives, but she only started to cut when they came into the picture, and a lot of people believe they almost took hers. Their third studio album was a real let down. I don't think the band has changed like many think, but, mearly, the passion and emotion they used to have is not there anymore. It's sad to see something like that happen, especailly to a band like them. The first song I heard was HELENA. And I loved them. Every song there is I've heard it. Before and after Helena, I wasn't diagnosed with depression, but it felt like every day was more crappy than the last. I remember going to bed at night, crying for no reason at all...just crying that I'm not perfect enough, not pretty enough, and not smart enough to fit my parents standards. Then[after the 9 millionth time I listened to Black Parade] something inpired me to write my own songs. The guys in MCR wont read this, but thanks to them I still have my insanity. Peace. It's something i think we can all relate to, and it really depresses me. What depresses me more though is that Gerard used to write about things that are REAL. Before i first heard their music,i thought they where some dumb emo band that my friend loved telling me about.I always hated my life,never getting along with anyone i knew,always an outcast with some other of my friends. I heard my first song by them a year ago(2007) and it was either Teenagers or Welcome To The Black Parade, im not quite sure,but i ended up listening to it and liked them even more,which led me finding their CD (The Black Parade) in a Target store,and buying it. I could never put the CD away after i first heard it all,in the shower-MCR,in my room-MCR,etc. The whole year of 6t grade,on the bus after school i would listen to ....My Chemical Romance. i liked how much i related to most of the songs they have written over the years (as Gerard says: this is a band most kids can relate to)and seeing that they also had "problems?" as kids and that i wasnt alone. But one day i come into school and my friend (not saying names) had cuts across their wrists.I was disappointed,sad,confused,angry,and some other emotions that are to long to explain.I asked them why they had done this,and they said because they were angry.I swear i was about to cry.I have heard of troubled teens doing this,but i have never seen it from my friends.I was scared they were going to do it again,but i didnt say anything.MCR has made a positive change in my life,and im really happy with my choice of them.im actually listening to them as im writing this!i hope they live on forever,hold up there little buddies. the black parade is dead | Reviewer: ben ------ About artist/band My Chemical Romance say what you want but the black parade is still a really good album. if you find it boring you arent actually listening to the music. yes they strayed away from their signature emo-punk style but they traded it in for a more ambitious grander sound. however i do think three cheers for sweet revenge was better. something interesting about mcr they model their career after the smashing pumpkins. a little background on the pumpkins their first album was released with a small label and their next 2 albums which were major label releases were really good and sold very well. then their next two discs did badly they broke up and got back together(well two of them anyway) seven years later and released an album that has been only a modest success. that doesnt sound like a very good career model especially since mcr's career to date is all too similar to that of the smashing pumpkins at their three album mark. be scared mcr fans- the black parade is dead.
