Based in New Jersey, My Chemical Romance is an alternative pop/rock and punk-pop band that has been compared to Thursday and, to a lesser degree, Cursive. Many of their songs are loud, fast, hyper, and aggressive, but My Chemical Romance's work also tends to be melodic and pop-minded. My Chemical Romance got started in the early 2000s, when lead singer Gerard Way and drummer Matt Pelissier decided to try writing some songs together. The first tune that Way and Pelissier -- who had been friends since high school -- came up with was called "Skylines and Turnstiles" (a title reflecting the fact that Way had been working in New York City, where he was in the animation field. They don't however focus on suicide . The song is written after the death of Gerard and Mikey's grandmother or someone close to them . The whole album Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge was dedicated to this 'Helena' . I used to be a HUGE MCR fan but once that Black Parade shit came out, they sold out and were too generic . I was always the same way. I have listened to them since I was um . . . 9 I think. That was 4 years back. I liked writing and The Sharpest Lives and Dead! helped me write the emotional parts. I looked online to see why he was different then everyone else, and I was amazed at what he did. Turning the part of his life that he hated into music that says "Hey, don't do what I did!" This song I am iffy about; mainly the suicidal lyrics. But I am glad that this is one band that follows the unspoken emo music rule -- emo is a compliment! -- that the songs with the most depressing stuff are the easiest to sing along with. btw, to the person who said that they dress like modern vampires; what the hell!
