Mr. Crowley Lyrics - Ozzy Osbourne

OK guys, this speculation is all well and good but it's clear that you're all missing the real point here. The only actual significance this song has is that it's deffs the where the writers of Supernatural got their inspiration for the character Crowley. Sheesh guys, sort out your priorities...;P

All this debacle and arguing over something that is purely art! Yes, it's about Aleister Crowley and the crazy and unreal things he did. And in the lyrics, Ozzy wonders about this. But really, this song is one of the best I've ever heard, with haunting singing by Ozzy and THE MOST BRILLIANT guitar work by the legend Randy Rhoads! His solos are breathtaking and so masterful... After reading the lyrics for many times and seeing the films about satanism: it's true, it's about Aleister Crowley, but i'm almost sure that this song is dissaproving Crowley. But one thing gets me fu**in hanged up.
Crowley has written a book with the title "Wizard of Oz" !!! and he used "OZ" for several times in his books as a Satanic Symbol!
now you can find out why i'm hanged up! the album Blizzard of Oz really looks like the name of Crowley's book "Wizard of Oz" and also Osbourne's nickname "Ozzy" is drastically similar to "Oz", the symbol that Crowley used it as a satanic symbol in his books..

Yeah, just so you all know - Ozzy didn't write the lyrics to Mr. Crowley. To be honest, Ozzy didn't write the lyrics to anything. When he was in Sabbath it was Mr.Geezer Butler that did the lyrics. For the first two Ozzy albums it was actually the bass player, Bob Daisly, that wrote the lyrics.

Really? Because if you took the time to research what you said, you'd know that Lavey was 16 when Crowley died, and moreover,after LaVey read Crowleys work, he was of the opinion that Crowley was a druggy poseur whose greatest achievements were as a poet and a mountain-climber.

It's a song about what a nutjob Crowley was, nothing more. If you read the lyrics to some of his early Sabbath work, you can see that he was not writing anything satanic. Just look at the lyrics for "after forever" by Black sabbath, and you'll know the truth about them.

You will also find where EVEN THE BEATLES were involved with this group.From the information i have gathered from this, Marilyn Manson, Ozzy, The Beatles, Marilyn Monroe and a few others were involved somewhat with the church of satan. But the song "Mr. Crowley" is about Ozzy's interaction with the High Priest of the satanic church. Ozzy asks about the things done in their rituals and it freaked Ozzy out to the point he wrote this song. The part where they "Scattered the afterbirth"...thats part of a satanic baptism of a newborn. "approaching the time that is classic, standing with their backs to the wall, approaching the time that is drastic" all speak of a human sacrifice that is to be done. Just Google Anton LaVey and you will find Mr. Crowley...

Everyone here has solid ideas, perceptions. But please allow me to say that this is all subjective and based on personnal beliefs. The only way to know what ozzy meant is to ask him personally!!! Always go to the source since he's still alive but also impossible cos u can't just invite mr ozborne for a drink and debate the song with him!!!! well to start things off hey i'm a thirteen year old talking about a sixty-three year old man creepy huh well let me enlighten you a little bit when my father passed away in 2006 I had gotten his rare box-set of all of the Black Sabbath cd's well i was reading the book that was in it and there was an interview with said John Osbourne it said that the illusions in their songs were ment to make you wonder if they are using black magic but in the truth they wern't they went FAR away and for the whole name of the band it was a clever recreation of an old scary movie not as though they were in the influence of dark magic that is the reason behind this song "o' mr.crowley did you talk to the dead..."

I love Ozzy's Mr. Crowley. Only brainwashed people believe Sabbath-Ozzy is satan-music. I love how Ozzy taunts the religiious satan-freak, Alistar Crowley. A review from an esoteric/Marxist point of view:

The song actually has a lot in common with "Revolution" by the Beatles. In the case of the Beatles, on the surface "Revolution" may seem pro-revolution--until you take a closer look. In fact, because of the capitalist forces that will always reinforce the status quo (because it keeps the working class down) the song actually discourages revolution. This is so simply because capitalist forces have controlled music in the UK and USA for several decades.

In the case of Mr. Crowley, a close look shows that although Crowley is considered a prophet by some, and one might think the song is an homage, it actually degrades his incredible legacy in favor of mainstream, status quo religious ideas. Calling him a Satanist is absurd.

The reasons are the same: because capitalist forces control what we hear, and it's in their best interest to reinforce their status quo regarding our political or religious ideas, which of course are completely intertwined.
