Thrice Moving Mountains Lyrics

Last updated: 06/22/2010 11:00:00 AM

I speak in many tongues to many men;
Argue with angels and I always win,
But I don't know the first thing about love.

I prophesy and know all mysteries;
All hidden things are opened up to me
But I don't know the first thing about love

I have the keys to open any door;
I give all of my possessions to the poor,
But I don't know the first thing about love

And moving mountains ain't nothing to me;
I've faith enough to cast them to the sea,
But I don't know the first thing about love

But all other things shall fade away;
While love stands alone and still holds sway
All other things shall fade away;
Into the ground into the grey.

I give my body up unto the flames;
And never once have I denied your name
But I don't know the first thing about love.

The song is taken from 1 Corinthians 13:1-3, 8

"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away."

I took the easy way out and put together that this song is about being "God". But then I read it a few times more and thought maybe it was about anti-christ. Im not a super religious person by any means. But its just what popped up in the ol'e noggin and I couldn't find a way to prove me wrong.

You could have all the material wealth, all the skills and knowledge of all of humanity, but it means nothing without love.

That's what I got out of this song anyways

When heavier bands make stuff like this it has a lot more emotional impact than bands that always have this sound, and that makes it way better, in my opinion. This song is like the peak of that feeling, showing so much vulnerability and divinity. It's absolutely awesome!
