Mother Lyrics - John Lennon
Review The Song (1)
Mother, you had me, but I never had you
I wanted you, you didn't want me
So I, I just got to tell you
Goodbye, goodbye
Father, you left me, but I never left you
I needed you, you didn't need me
So I, I just got to tell you
Goodbye, goodbye
Children, don't do what I have done
I couldn't walk and I tried to run
So I, I just got to tell you
Goodbye, goodbye
Mama don't go
Daddy come home
(repeat 9 more times)
I wanted you, you didn't want me
So I, I just got to tell you
Goodbye, goodbye
Father, you left me, but I never left you
I needed you, you didn't need me
So I, I just got to tell you
Goodbye, goodbye
Children, don't do what I have done
I couldn't walk and I tried to run
So I, I just got to tell you
Goodbye, goodbye
Mama don't go
Daddy come home
(repeat 9 more times)

"Mother" - Lennon during his "Primal Scream" period... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/29/2007
This is one of Lennon's most plaintive songs, describing his feelings concerning probably the most important event in his life - the seperation he underwent at an early age from his mother.
The outro ("Mommy dont go - Daddy come home") pre-dates and anticipates the simpicity and earnestness of the "punk movement" of the late-'70's in lyrical content and performance.
