Oh she knows
She takes his hand
And prays the child will understand
At the door they watch the men go by
In the clothes that daddy wore
Mother's pride
Baby Boy
His father's eyes
He's a soldier waiting for war
Time will come
He'll hold a gun
His father's son
And as he grows
He hears the band
Takes the step from boy to man
And at the shore she waves her son goodbye
Like the man she did before
Mother's pride
Just a boy
His country's eyes
He's a soldier waving at the shore
And in her heart the time has come
To lose a son
And all the husbands, all the sons, all the lovers gone
They make no difference
No difference in the end
Still hear the women say your daddy died a hero
In the name of God and man
Mother's pride
Crazy boy
His lifeless eyes
He's a soldier now forever more
He'll hold a gun till kingdom come

Review about Mother's Pride Normandy | Reviewer: Monique | 9/24/09
Walking by the graves of so many young men, some of them were just 17 year old boys, at the Ranville War Cemetery. I couldn't stop playing this song through my mind.
It fits the sad view of the cemetery with all these young heroes who fought for a free Europe.
A few thousand fathers, sons, brothers but also a few women are buried there. And that's just one of the many cemeteries of Normandy.
My husband was a soldier, my son wants to become one. I fear losing a loved one.
Because all of this, this song is very special.
Mere words could not describe the feelings conjured up inside me when I first heard this song. It grips your heart and you almost feel it bleed for every person lost to war and to every family member who has lost someone to war. There is no other voice besides George Michael who could sing this song and make it sound so definite and haunting. Simply amazing!!!!
Very moving and truthful indeed | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/10/07
Dear All,
Every time I hear this song, I simply burst into tears. The poetic truth is shocking, since it retells the history of generations killed and lost in the struggle for something erroneous and oftentimes unimportant. Flesh is being wasted all the time purposelessly. Once again we are faced up with the truth that poets know better what this world and being in all about.
Thank you,
George
