Montauk Lyrics - Bayside

Review The Song (5)

It's getting cold.
Thought it was too soon to tell
but it was terribly old
and as the heartbeat slows to a heartless crawl.
The lights went out,
The lights went out
and darkness filled the house
on tiring night under a Long Island sky.

I thought I'd known the consequence,
but sweetness, can you believe this?
Mess we've made of it.
This mess we've made of it.
In years to come it might make sense,
but sweetness, can you believe this?
This what's become of it? What's become of it?

If you hear this and you think you're ready,
sponsored links
then meet me in Montauk
where we'll write out in the sand,
"Here lies the destiny of 2 hurt souls
afraid to be cured again."
That could be our epitaph.

I thought I'd known the consequence,
but sweetness, can you believe this?
Mess we've made of it.
This mess we've made of it.
In years to come it might make sense,
but sweetness, can you believe this?
This what's become of it? What's become of it?
[x2]

I know...

I thought I'd know the consequence,
but sweetness, can you believe this?
Mess we've made of it.
This mess we've made of it.
In years to come it might make sense,
but sweetness, did you foresee this?
What's become of it? Just what's become...

This is an song about "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". It refers to actual scenes in this movie. I have done research on song references to "Eternal Sunshine",and especially on this song.

If we look deeper into this, there could be a sub-meaning of some sort.. But this is an overall reference to the movie.

The hardest thing to deal with when you have lyric discussions is determining how deep the words can go.. And there really is no limit to figuring out what ANY song means.. So go at it with what you want, But if you have seen "Eternal Sunshine", and do a bit of research.. This conclusion is pretty general and logical.

I love the solo to this song, especially since there are two parts for two different people at the beginning. I love to play and sing this song because it's composition is just amazing with two guitars and vocalists. Still the solo is so much funnest thing to play.

As for the lyrics, I can believe either/or. Who knows it could have just been inspired by the movie, or maybe there’s more in the meaning of Montauk then they let on. Either way, the whole writing things and in the sand, and epitaphs really goes deep as far as my understanding of this song is. But hey everyone’s interpretation of music is always different.

My song meaning... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/17/09

This seems to be about a girl that he's had a friendship relationship with. While avoiding the loving part of a relationship, he chose to just stay friends.

It looks like in his eyes, the relationships become a mess because he realized that she was the girl for him, but waiting to long.

She's over it, but he's just getting started on those emotions with her.

This song, if I am not mistaken, is a homage to the movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". The specific quote is "Meet me in Montauk." A quality song about a quality movie.
