Gang Starr Moment of Truth Lyrics

Last updated: 06/06/2013 12:17:49 PM

[some Jamaican gwal]
No matta wat we fyace
We mus face de moment of trut baybe

Chorus: Guru

They say it's lonely at the top, in whatever you do
You always gotta watch motherfuckers around you
Nobody's invincible, no plan is foolproof
We all must meet our moment of truth

Verse One: Guru

The same sheisty cats that you hang with, and do your thang with
could set you up and wet you up, nigga peep the language
It's universal, you play with fire it may hurt you
or burn you, lessons are blessings you should learn through
Let's face facts, although MC's lace tracks
it doesn't mean behind the scenes there ain't no dirt to trace back
That goes for all of us, there ain't nobody to trust
It's like sabotage, it's got me ready to bust
But I can't jeapordize, what I have done up to this point
So I'ma get more guys, to help me run the whole joint
Cultivate, multiply, motivate, or else we'll die
You know I be the masterof the who what where and why
See when you're shinin, some chumps'll wanna dull ya
Always selfish jealous punks, will wanna pull ya
down, just like some shellfish in a bucket
cause they love it, to see your ass squirm like a worm
But just as you'll receive what is comin to you
Everybody else is gonna get theirs too
I ain't no saint, therefore I cannot dispute
That everyone must meet their moment of truth

Chorus: Guru

Actions have reactions, don't be quick to judge
You may not know the harships people don't speak of
It's best to step back, and observe with couth
For we all must meet our moment of truth

Verse Two: Guru

Sometimes you gotta dig deep, when problems come near
Don't fear things get severe for everybody everywhere
Why do bad things happen, to good people?
Seems that life is just a constant war between good and evil
The situation that I'm facin, is mad amazin
to think such problems can arise from minor confrontations
Now I'm contemplatin in my bedroom pacin
Dark clouds over my head, my heart's racin
Suicide? Nah, I'm not a foolish guy
Don't even feel like drinking, or even gettin high
Cause all that's gonna do really, is accelerate
the anxieties that I wish I could alleviate
But wait, I've been through a whole lot of other shit, before
So I oughta be able, to withstand some more
But I'm sweatin though, my eyes are turnin red and yo
I'm ready to lose my mind but instead I use my mind
I put down the knife, and take the bullets out my nine
My only crime, was that I'm too damn kind
And now some skanless motherfuckers wanna take what's mine
But they can't take the respect, that I've earned in my lifetime
And you know they'll never stop the furious force of my rhymes
So like they say, every dog has its day
And like they say, God works in a mysterious way
So I pray, remembering the days of my youth
As I prepare to meet my moment of truth

("You should know the truth
And the truth shall set you free" --> from _Who's Gonna Take the Weight?_)

Verse Three: Guru

Yo I got one lyric pointed at your head for start
Another one, is pointed at your weak ass heart
Now if I pull the trigger, on these fully loaded lines
You're gonna wish I woulda pulled a black nine, I mack dimes
Crack the spines of the fake gangsters
Yeah the bitin triflin niggaz, and the studio pranksters
Yo lookin at the situation plainly: will you remain G?
Or will you be looked upon strangely?
I reign as the articulator, with the greater data
Revolvin on the TASCAM much doper than my last jam
While others struggle to juggle, tricky metaphots
I explore more, to expose the core
A lot of MC's, act stupid to me
And we have yet to see, if they can match our longevity
But anyway it's just another day
Another fake jack I slay with my spectac' rap display
Styles, smooth but rugged -- you can't push or shove it
You dig it and you dug it cause like money you love it
The king of monotone, with my own throne
Righteously violent prone my words bring winds like cyclones
Stormin your hideout, blockin out your sunlight
Your image and your business, were truly not done right
Throw up your he-Allah-I now, divine saviors
You got no hand skills there's no security to save ya
No pager, no celly, no drop top Benz-y
I came to bring your phony hip-hop, to an ending
My art of war will leave you sore from the abuse
Cause you must meet your moment of truth

Chorus: Guru

They say it's lonely at the top, in whatever you do
You always gotta watch motherfuckers around you
No one's untouchable, no man is bulletproof
We all must meet our moment of truth

I just heard the song, "lifesaver" on Internet radio and nothing could be more humble and send out a more positive message than this song as well. Even after his passing he is still saving lives with his words.

My favourite song of all time. | Reviewer: Bradley | 9/28/10

2 of my 3 favourite songs of all time are by Gang Starr: Check the Technique and this, Moment of Truth. I stayed up all night last night listening to music trying to forget about my problems and lift myself out of the hole I've been in for a while now.

I've said this about songs before, but now I can honestly say it. This made me think about my life in a way I'll never forget. The most inspiring lyrics I've ever heard in any song period, not just hip-hop, and Guru is one of the most intelligent people I've ever known in music. It's onwards and upwards from here thanks to Gang Starr.

Wow | Reviewer: Tom | 9/9/10

Life Changing. Thats all that needs to be said to this song. He puts life in perspective within a matter of 4 mins.. unreal. The Guru was a tragic loss in the hiphop world.. and knowbody will every forget him. Songs like these you can almost just put in poem form and sell it as a book. Needless to say, Rest In Peace Guru

realist rap ever | Reviewer: tru swagg | 8/2/10

this song is so real u have people in the world that will do some crazy shit low life ones now and days in the year of 2010 and so on but when u lay back and listen to this cut it deals with everyday life what u think is your friend is not your friend and he said GOD works in mysterious way.

Poetic Truth in Moment of Truth | Reviewer: TMAY | 5/4/10

If you look and read this ESSAY by Guru, you can tell that he was a prophet.
"And now some skanless motherfuckers wanna take what's mine
But they can't take the respect, that I've earned in my lifetime
And you know they'll never stop the furious force of my rhymes
So like they say, every dog has its day
And like they say, God works in a mysterious way
So I pray, remembering the days of my youth
As I prepare to meet my moment of truth". His spirit was speaking in the Future regarding Solar and his business relationship. this is how I know this brutha was more than HIP-HOP. he was developing into what we all desire to become. (Ill let you figure that out). See his death was not un-timely it was timely.. he outgrew the need to exist on this plane and blossomed into his full potential. He is and Always will be consciousness personified!!! M.Y.S.A.S

Got me into Hip hop when I was 8. | Reviewer: TVTECH9 | 4/12/10

I remember Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 and this was one of the first hip hop tracks I ever heard. The combo of Premier and Guru made this song a 10/10. This was Gang Starr at their best, b/c they sounded modern without sounding commercial like they did in earlier years. This brings back gr8 memories of playing Dave Mirra until 3 in the morning. Ohhhhhh what a gr8 soundtrack that was!

REAL rap | Reviewer: jonny holloway | 1/9/10

sometimes when you tell people you listen to rap you receive a face from them as if your some sort of scum and they disrespect you either because they think the rappers themselves are disrespectful, harsh, and uncivilized with thier lyrics. but obviously they have not heard gang starr and this song speciffically moment of truth. Gang Starr is the deffintion of real, old school, down to earth rap that has meaning behind their lyrics. not like that shit you hear on the radio today were rappers talk about how much money they have and rolling on there 22's. every rapper should shoot for gang starr's style but mostly his lyrical content. obviously my favorite rapper.

A lifesaver | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/3/09

This very song saved my life. Seriously, I had been deeply depressed for quite a time and then one day I was playing this track when driving to work. Suddenly the realness behind the lyrics just hit me and I had to pull over cause I started to cry. I realised that no matter how unfairly life seemed to treat me I could make it. I don't care how many records they sell. I bought "Moment of Truth" when it came out and it changed my life. My biggest respect to these guys for keeping it real.

Godlike. | Reviewer: Jeremy Schleicher | 11/3/08

This is probably my favourite rap song ever. And probably one of my favourite songs in general. If you know Gang Starr, you know they are one of the best rap groups ever. And, in my view, if they put out just this song, if they were a one hit wonder, everyone rap fan would still remember them! I have shown this song to my parents, siblings, and friends mostly all of which dont like rap or hip-hop musicm and they felll in love with this song! They are HUGE fans of Gang Starr now, and thats probably the only rap group theyre ever going to like.

I want to thank both members of Gang Starr for being so great.
