Moment of Surrender Lyrics - U2

Review The Song (7)

I tied myself with wire
To let the horses roam free
Playing with the fire
Until the fire played with me

The stone was semi precious
We were barely conscious
Two souls too smart to be
In the realm of certainty
Even on our wedding day

We set ourselves on fire
Oh God, do not deny her
Its not if I believe in love
(But) If love believes in me
Oh believe in me

At the moment of surrender
I folded to my knees
I did not notice the passers by
And they did not notice me

I’ve been in every black hole
At the alter of the Dark star
My body's now a begging bowl
That's begging to get back
Begging to get back
To my heart
To the rhythm of my soul
To the rhythm of my consciousness
To the rhythm that yearns
To be released from control

I was punching in the numbers at the ATM machine
I could see in the reflection
A face staring back at me
At the moment of surrender
Of vision over visibility
I did not notice the passers by
And they did not notice me

I was speeding off the subway
Through the stations of the cross
Every eye looking every other way
Counting down till the pain will stop

At the moment of surrender
Of vision over visibility
I did not notice the passers by
And they did not notice me

Best song on the album- a cry for identity.

At some point in our lives we will reach a moment when we will have to take a good look at ourselves. Where we've been and where we're going. A moment when you will not even care what others will think and going down on your knees is the only way out. Surrender yourself to the fact that one cannot go it alone. The struggle to make sense of one's life is often so hard and too sad.

Begging to get back
To my heart
To the rhythm of my soul
To the rhythm of my consciousness
To the rhythm that yearns
To be released from control

At some point, we will see a vision beyond what is visible that will finally make sense to you.

It's not if I believe in love
(But) If love believes in me
Oh believe in me

The vision is Jesus. Believe in Jesus and you shall be free. The Dark Star has been defeated.

Beautiful and magnificent! | Reviewer: Sid Sin | 4/24/11

Its wonderful how u2 can tell stories in such a way that we feel its actually happening to us. Music is about experiencing all kinds of emotion and only u2 have made me feel contrasting emotions within seconds. One moment I'm rejoicing and the very next moment the pain in the songs just kinda reaches out to me. Moment of surrender, Unknown Caller and Magnificent are standouts of this album. Creations of true and honest artists.

You have the most important line of the lyrics wrong. From the Rolling Stone interview:

"Moment" includes a phrase that's close to sacred for Bono: "vision over visibility". Until now, he never found a home for it in a song, but he used it as a title for a painted self-portrait in the eighties, placed it in poems and essays, and even squeezed it into a live version of "Rockin' in the Free World." It's an idea that I've held on to quite tightly over the years," he says. "It's like Martin Luther King's speech - the moment when you see the place, but you can't see yet how to get there." The slogan stands as an insistence on looking past what you can see in favor of what could be. For Bono, the world as it is will never be enough. "I'm not the tattooing kind, but if I had a tattoo, that would be it," he says. "Elvis had 'taking care of business.' I've got 'vision over visibility.'"

After one listen, I'd agree w/ this being the best track - although i suspect my mind will change over time.

I like the understated drum loop. Eno ambiance + a very Lanois-ish chorus = WIN. Can't wait to hear a live performance. Sends chills.

Greatest song? | Reviewer: B. | 2/23/09

I have had the crappiest day today. I streamed this from U2's site and burst into tears. How rare is it to hear a brand new song that stops you dead in the tracks and makes you say, "This is how I feel. This is who I am today"?

Best track on the new album | Reviewer: Steve | 2/23/09

This has got to be the best track on the album. The raw emotion in Bono's voice makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.
A superb solo riff from The Edge lies in the middle of the track.

U2 at their best!
