Mofo Lyrics - U2

Review The Song (3)

Looking for to save my save my soul
Looking in the places where no flowers grow
Looking for to fill that God shaped hole
Mother... mother sucking rock and roll, mother...

Holy dunc, spacejunk coming in for the splash
(Been around back... been around front)
Wh-wh-white dopes on punk s-staring into the flash
(Been around back... been around front)
Looking for the baby Jesus under the trash
(Been around back... been around front)

Mother... mother sucking rock and roll, mother...
Bubble popping, to the rock and... rock and... rock and roll, mother...

Mother... mother... mother...
Mother... mother... mother...

Mother... am I still your son
You know I've waited for so long to hear you say so
sponsored links
Mother... you left and made me someone
Now I'm still a child, no one tells me no

Looking for a sound that's going drown out the world
(Been around back... been around front)
Looking for the father of my two little girls
(Been around back... been around front)
Got the swing, got the sway, got my straw in lemonade
(Been around back... been around front)
Still looking for the face I had before the world was made
(Been around back... been around front)

Mother... mother sucking rock and roll, mother...
Hopping popping shopping dropping, it's rock and roll, mother...
Mother... mother suck, yeah, fuck yeah, mother...

Mother... mother... mother...
Mother... mother... mother...

Soothe me mother
Rule me father
Fool me brother
Woo me sister
Soothe me mother
Rule me father
Show me mother
Show me mother
Show me mother
Show me mother
Show me mother

MoFo is slang for "Mother Fu.ker" The song to me questions success, decadence, money and whether those can be compatable with salvation. The conflict is their success and searching for his role, if any, in God's plan. Bono seems to be asking both his Mother and the Mother of Jesus (Holy Mary) to intercede and help find a purpose of his life in God's plan as well as salvation - in a world filled with a no boundaries due to his success in Rock and Roll, he has access to all the excitations that accompany this lifestyle - which are not compatible with the traditional view on eternal life (save my soul). He is asking Mother Mary and his own Mother for a sign to show he is on the right path towards this end. The metaphors to me are "Mother Mary/his own Mother - Good" and "Mother Fuc..ker Rock and Roll - Evil/Temptation" ie Good versus Evil.

U2's Mofo | Reviewer: Eruaran | 12/25/09

This song is one of those great and underrated pieces of work. I love the whole thing but I'm especially impressed by what the Edge does with the guitar in this song. What to say, to really appreciate it I recommend watching the PopMart Live from Mexico City. Mofo is the dramatic opening number after U2 make a gloriously over the top and melodramatic POP culture parody entrance, which was never really understood at the time even with the golden arch and other such imagery... Someone suggested to Adam Clayton that it was a failure, but I like Claytons response: "ah but what a grand failure". Pop was not well understood, a misfire perhaps, but I think it actually makes more sense in 2009 than it did in the late 90's. I would really like to see U2 get back to this kind of creativity.

Mofo- U2, 1997 sucked! NOT! | Reviewer: morgan (10yrs) | 4/12/09

Oh god, what happened in 1997? I don't know what they were doing with Mofo. Here are two things:

1. I don't believe it had a drum machine in it. Nor techno. It was too early for that.

2. Bono's mother was dedicated in this song. Why?

I hate to say this... I like this song a lot. In fact, it's my favourite u2 song. I'm not saying it because it wasn't successful, techno is a genre that changed the generation of music forever. In fact, it changed U2's music career. I think Exit was the first. But in my opinion, I call this song successful as it should have been.

MOFO: 10/10 Don't be wrong it's bad.
