Modern English Lyrics
Modern English is back. And why shouldn’t they be? They
had the guts and energy to bash their way through London’s
punk explosion. They had the nerve to write uncompromising
political anthems. They had the pop smarts to unleash "I
Melt With You," inarguably one of the most enduring songs
of the 80’s. Over one million radio plays attest to the
song’s staying power
Contrary to the cynical opinion, the 80’s were not all one
horrifying concoction of John Hughes movies, skinny ties,
mullet haircuts, and MTV dependent synthesizer wimps. More...

Reviews about Modern English songs
The Song That Defined the '80s | Reviewer: Walt
------ About the song I Melt With You performed by Modern English
This tune defined techno-pop! Besides bands such as Ultravox, The Plimsouls, The Psychedelic Furs, The Stranglers, and a few choice others, much of the 1980's sound was a bland droning of synth vs. guitar. Some said back then that synthesizers would replace guitars. How wrong they were! I hated the "big hair" bands. Power chords, lousey lyrics, and pretty hair didn't really cut it! "I Melt the World" stood head and shoulders above any of the other "new wave" tunes because it had heart/soul, it was UPBEAT, and you could dance to it all night long and never really tire of it! Think about how many pre-gen x'ers can readily identify with this song, and where they were when they first heard it. Though the film "Valley Girl" was a flop, "I Melt the World" was THE perfect tune for that movie's finale. For that matter, I wonder what Nick Cage thinks of this song?
