Review The Song (19)Print the Lyrics

I got a twenty-dollar bill that says no one's ever seen you without makeup.
You're always made up.
And I'm sick of your tattoos,
and the way you always criticize the Smiths... and Morrissey.
And I know that you're a sucker for anything acoustic.
But when I say let's keep in touch,
I really mean I wish that you'd grow up.
This is the first song for your mixtape.
And it's short just like your temper,
but somewhat golden like the afternoons we used to spend before you got too cool...

I got a twenty-dollar bill that says no one's ever seen you without makeup.
You're always made up.
And I'm sick of your tattoos, and the way you don't appreciate Brand New or me
And I know that you're a sucker for anything acoustic.
But when I say let's keep in touch,
I hope you know I mean I wish that you'd grow up.
This is the first song for your mixtape.
And it's short just like your temper,
but somewhat golden like the afternoons we used to spend before you got too cool...

(yeah, but I wish you were my shadow.) <i>[repeat]

Review about Mix Tape

great song. too bad it has to be spoiled for me now. | Reviewer: friends suck | 10/6/09

It's startling how accurate this is in relation to my life right now haha. I know it sounds cliche, but I can definitely relate to this song. My best friend is currently pissed the fuck off at me for a really stupid little thing, and upon reflection, I realized that we're only friends because we've known each other for so long. He has turned into such a tooly and fake person (no one's ever seen you without makeup; you're always made up), and he's totally critical of everything I do and the music I listen to (the way you always criticize the Smiths and Morrissey), even though we used to share a common interest in style and music. Basically, he just listens to Lady GaGa and other mainstream shit like that, and won't be bothered with good music like Brand new anymore, so I don't have to worry about him reading this. He really is a sucker for acoustic music (or was), and he constantly craves attention ("yeah, but I wish you were in my shadow" accurately depicts my own thoughts). We used to make each other mix CDs (before we had iPods) with new music we were listening to on it, and once this was the first song on one that I gave him. He has a very short temper, as he was raised by parents who spoiled the shit out of him, which is what fuels his God Complex (the severity of which is rivaled only by Kanye's). We haven't hung out outside of school for a few weeks now, and before that, it had been a full month or more. He hangs out with all his "cool" friends now, who I don't particularly mind, but definitely don't fit in with for extended interaction.

Today after a long fight via phone, I told him "let's keep in touch, fuckface. And by that, I mean I wish you'd grow the fuck up" and then hung up. I hope he still remembers this song.

Okay Meaghan or whoever you are. you are an idiot. the lyrics are nothing alike as well as the meaning. the only similarity is the title.. ha wow. and this song is actually about the feud between Jesse Lacey (singer of Brand New) and John Nolan (former singer of Taking Back Sunday). basically the story is that Jesse and John were best friends then Jesse's girlfriend cheated on him with John. You can find hidden things in the songs it's pretty cool. look up the lyrics to Seventy Times Seven then look up the lyrics to There's No 'I' In Team. There's some big similarities. basically about Jesse's grief over this and John is responding to it. you can also look it up on google. type in "Brand New and Taking Back Sunday" on google and go to the very first clicky thing. it will tell you all about it. But anyways..
Brand New is the best!

Just A Note.... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/1/09

I just discovered that Brand New's Song Mixtape actually references a great novel called "The Perks Of Being a Wallflower". If you read the book the song has even more meaning to it. I loved the song when I first heard it and it was a complete coincedence that I ended up reading this novel. I was researching the novel because the novel lists a bunch of different songs and I wanted to make a little 'mix tape' of my own and via Wikipedia I found out that the song is related to the novel. So as long as wikipedia is right there's some extra knowledge.....either way both the song and the novel are amazing pieces of artwork.

Okay .. to that chick that thinks it's a cover of Butch Walker's song ? Have ya listened to either of them ? I'm guessing not . People who actually listen to either Butch Walker, or Brand New (or both) clearly don't appreciate people who pretend they know what they are talking about when it comes to their music . Me being one of those people .. SO next time, before you decide to make statements such as the one you made, make sure you know your shit . kthnx

To 'remake' a song, one has to copy the original song. Listen to Walker's song then listen to this song. See any differenced? If you don't, please see a neurologist STAT. Oh, and by the way- people don't "reamake" songs, they cover them.

You're freaking stupid. | Reviewer: RedRevolver | 10/30/07

I just looked up the song and the lyrics, and anyone who says this is the same is freaking retarded...

The song, it's meaning, it's sound - completely fucking different.

I never review songs, but seriously, I just had to.

It goes 'Cause you gave me the best mixed tape I have. Even all the bad songs ain't so bad.'
