Mistress Lyrics - Disturbed

Review The Song (3)

My Mistress

I stand on the brink of your mind
Living inside a nightmare from which
I just cannot awaken
Stand on the edge of your life
Just give me another moment
From which I will never awaken

Stand on the brink of my own demise
Fallen again for another
Mistress of burden
To idolize
Hoping that one of them will decide
To let me in

My Mistress

To stand on the edge of the knife
Cutting through the nightmare from which
I just cannot awaken
Stand on the edge of the night
Living inside a moment
From which I will never awaken

Stand on the brink of my own demise
Fallen again for another
Mistress of burden
To idolize
Hoping that one of them will decide
To let me in

Look at what you've done to me
You've become my enemy
Poisoning the world for me
Take away my everything
Weakened as I am

Never awaken

Stand on the brink of my own demise
Fallen again for another
Mistress of burden
To idolize
Hoping that one of them will decide
To let me in

My Mistress
Decide to let me in

My Mistress
Decide to let me in

First of all, the other comment here bothers me 'cause Meat Popsicle referred to the song 'Voices' as 'Are you Breathing', a noobs mistake. (no offence, but call the song by the actual title, please).

On to the song, this Disturbed song I find particularly mellow, althuogh not totally laid back. Bass guitar plays a much more important part here than on other parts of the song, so that's nice. Guitar is rather simplistic but catchy and grooving. Drums are quite varied and try a lot of different things as far as fills go. My only gripe with the song is that the 'climax' (the part where Draiman sings 'Look at what you've done to me...').

It seems to die out to nothing; it seems choked, constricted. There needs to be more to it. Like, the climax sounds like the beginning of something big and heavy that's coming along, and it builds anticipation... then Draiman says 'Never... AWAKEN!' ...and then rather than using that buildup for some soloing or shredding or something vicious, it just resorts to going back to the chorus. Also, the emotional impact of the theme of the song (cheating, lying, being in love with someone you shouldn't be) doesn't entirely come across all that strong.

I love the band, i think this is one of their best songs. If you liked this I also recommend 'Are You Breathing', 'Devour' and 'Fear' although all their songs rock!!! :-D
