Misteltein was started in dark autumn 96 by Seron, Nagrinn,
Karagat and former drummer Alex. The goal was already at
this point clear, to create the best music possible within
the extreme metal genre without tying oneself to a specific
area.

The following year things were kind of slow, Alex left the
band and was replaced by Nirag. Also Hel and Baalzephon had
joined the band to create a full line-up. With this
powerful line-up the material for the demo tape "Spawn of
the phantom moon " was starting to take form. In
February 98 the band entered Studiefrämjandet studio and
recorded the entire demo over one night. Due to some
problems the demo was not released until July the same
