Is there a time for keeping your distance
A time to turn your eyes away
Is there a time for keeping your head down
For getting on with your day
Is there a time for kohl and lipstick
A time for curling hair
Is there a time for high street shopping
To find the right dress to wear
Here she comes
Heads turn around
Here she comes
To take her crown
Is there a time to run for cover
A time for kiss and tell
Is there a time for different colours
Different names you find it hard to spell
Is there a time for first communion
A time for East Seventeen
Is there a time to turn to Mecca
Is there time to be a beauty queen
Here she comes
Beauty plays the clown
Here she comes
Surreal in her crown
Dici che il fiume
Trova la via al mare
E come il fiume
Giungerai a me
Oltre i confini
E le terre assetate
Dici che come il fiume
Come il fiume...
L'amore giungerà
L'amore...
E non so più pregare
E nell'amore non so più sperare
E quell'amore non so più aspettare
[Translation of the above]
You say that the river
finds the way to the sea
and like the river
you will come to me
beyond the borders
and the dry lands
You say that like a river
like a river...
the love will come
the love...
And i don't know how to pray anymore
and in love i don't know how to hope anymore
and for that love i don't know how to wait anymore
[End of Translation]
Is there a time for tying ribbons
A time for Christmas trees
Is there a time for laying tables
And the night is set to freeze
O lijepa, o draga, o slatka slobodo,
[dar u kom sva blaga višnji nam bog je do...]

Review about Miss Sarajevo Miss break my heart | Reviewer: bryan donath | 8/29/09
tells a great story about the free world vs. I'm not sure? The leftovers from the communist/socialist states and aitheist states show that the value of life and liberty are non-value added. The US is now headed towards a state of similar anarchy, its financial institutions, state govts are in a state of bankruptcy due to social edicts that were unstainable, with rich social elitesl like Hollywood stars that wont giveaway their riches but expect the enteprenaues to give away thiers.
this is such a great piece of music, Pavarotti RIP.
I was lucky enough to have been in Sarajevo once(summer of 2007) and I must say that the city and the whole country are evolving rapidly from the ashes of war and suffering they had experienced, although the signs of battles are still visible almost anywhere. not to mention the people who are so warm and nicer than anywhere else in the world. I will definetely be back again.
with love, from Slovenia
sarajevo...impossible not to cry | Reviewer: crazytears | 9/20/08
undoubtly a powerful song. especially for mr. Pavarotti's performance. you may not know what he is saying (less you are italian or know italian), but just his voice comes in and...well it is indescribable all the emotions...great song, despite the fact i am not a u2 fan...
Awesome Performance | Reviewer: Hakan | 2/8/08
This song brings tears to your eyes if learn more about the story of Sarajevo in those years..A surreal girl who's looking for freedom to get on with her life, a typical and normal life..(high street shopping, curling hair, kiss and tell) Pavarotti's part is simply breath-taking, this is the only song I'm in love which combines an aria with a ballad perfectly..Full of emotion..
Miss Sarajevo "Is there a time". | Reviewer: Harry Watts | 1/12/08
The greatest loss to the whole world was the sad passing of the Master,Luciano Pavarotti.
U2 combined with Luciano, created a song so passionate, that awakens the emotions to the very height of overwhelming feelings within our flawed society, to allow such devestation in this day and age for all the Sarajevo's around the world, man and his greed has not learned to value life, love & give music to the world from Lennon to U2 & PAVAROTTI, We still cannot feed the world, give dignity to each and every human being, without killing, starvation & racism.
Bono & Luciano thankyou. Harry.
To all U2 & Mr. Pavarotti fans | Reviewer: Kevin | 11/29/07

To THEM, my (our) appreciation and thankfulness are to you. My (our) hearts are with you... God Bless! P.S. Bono... You are not alone!
Luciano, sing from heaven | Reviewer: Toni | 10/31/07
Yet it's been too long since Luciano left us. I just couldn't help crying as I heard the news. I teach English in Barcelona (Spain, Europe) at secondary education. After next Monday, my teenage students will know more about U2, Luciano and the horror lived in Sarajevo those years. This is probably the best song ever. Luciano, rest in peace and in our hearts. Thanks for the translation form croatian.
Lines by Marko Marulić..... | Reviewer: BoaMorte | 10/27/07
Wrong!!!!
Those lines were wroted by Ivan Gundulic, also Croatian, 1589-1638, from Dubrovnik.
it's a theatrical piece 'Dubravka', last lines 'Hym of freedom', from 1636 dedicated to christian city Dubrovnik who was defending its freedom from attackers - muslim Otoman Empire.
Paradoxally, during siedge of Sarajevo 12 years ago, it was the other way round - christian Serbs were attacking Muslim majority who were living in the city.
Nice song,
Lucianno R.I.P.
O lijepa, o draga... | Reviewer: Johnny | 10/20/07
O lijepa, o draga, o slatka slobodo,
[dar u kom sva blaga višnji nam bog je do...]
Litteraly translated it means:
''Oh beautiful, oh dear, oh sweet freedom,
gift in which all treasures gave us the Lord from above...''
Lines by Marko Marulić (Marcus Marulus Spalatensis), Croatian poet, lived and died in Split(1450-1524)
So heartbreaking | Reviewer: Diane Wagner | 9/7/07
I hadn't listened to this song for years but since hearing of Pavarotti's death, I remembered how much I loved it.
It is one of the most beautiful, haunting performances ever created. When Pavarotti's voice comes in after the little break, it's almost impossible to contain the emotion you feel immediately.
Art in response to political events is very rarely too good, but this is the most wonderful exception. The horror that was Sarajevo in those years inspired a musical response that is one of the most beautiful several minutes ever created.
I was also SO GLAD to finally see the translation of Pavarotti's piece. I always wondered what they meant!!
