Dearest Jane I should’ve known better
But I couldn’t say hello, I don't know why
But now I think, I think you were sad
Yes you were, you were, you were
What I say, I say only to you
Cause I love and I love only you
Dearest Jane, I want to give you a dream
That no one has given you
Remember when we found misery
We watched her, watched her spread her wings
And slowly, slowly fly around our room
And she asked for your gentle mind
Misery is a butterfly
Her heavy wings will warp your mind
With her small ugly face
And her long antenna
And her black and pink heavy wings
Remember when we found misery
We watched her, watched her spread her wings
And slowly, slowly fly around our room
And she asked for your gentle mind
Gentle mind, gentle mind

Review about Misery Is a Butterfly Life! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/19/09
This song is life itself. It simply sums up what life has been, is and will be. Misery is the only reality. For me at least. Those who see that butterfly called misery, fall inevitably in love with her. For that reason, I am in love with this song.

This is really art, not many melodies are so graphic and explicit - the picture comes to your mind, just as easily as if you had seen it painted in front of you.
The lyrics are true poetry, specially around the end of the song, and it's just fog, solitude and possibly naked trees.
When I listen to this song.
I picture a young Kazu walking through a dark and vast expanse of desert.
You can almost hear her crying in the song.
The vocals and instruments come together perfectly and portray Kazu's true emotions.
It's a calming and moving song at that.
One who hasn't listened to this song, has missed out on something monumental.
This song, whose album's name is one and the same, holds that honor for a reason.
The music, as well as Kazu's voice, is haunting, the lyrics saddening, and the percussion is so perfectly timed and fluid. This song takes me places when I listen to it driving. I've had several mini epiphanies will listening to this song and thinking about the lyrics. There is also something femme about it, outside of the butterfly itself, some minute quality that makes me think of woman I've watched grow and change over the years. Per usual, Kazu's lyrics are more cryptic than Amedeo's, but I have my ideas...
At any rate, this song is just beautiful and I don't think anyone can help getting wrapped up in it. When I listen to it on the way to work, I cannot shut it off before it is over- I sit in my car and wait. So there you have it.
