Misery Business Lyrics - Paramore

Review The Song (237)

I'm in the business of misery,
Let's take it from the top. She's got a body like an hourglass it's ticking like a clock.
It's a matter of time before we all run out,
When I thought he was mine she caught him by the mouth.

I waited 8 long months,
She finally set him free.
I told him I couldn't lie he was the only one for me.
Two weeks and we caught on fire,
She's got it out for me,
But I wear the biggest smile.

Whoa, I never meant to brag
But I got him where I want him now.
Whoa, it was never my intention to brag
Just steal it all away from you now.
But God does it feel so good,
Cause I got him where I want him now.

And if you could then you know you would.
Cause God it just feels so,
It just feels so good.

Second chances they don't ever matter, people never change.
once a whore you're nothing more, I'm sorry, that'll never change.
And about forgiveness, we're both supposed to have exchanged.
I'm sorry honey, but I passed out, now look this way.
Well there's a million other girls who do it just like you.
Looking as innocent as possible to get to who,
They want and what they like,
It's easy if you do it right.
Well I refuse, I refuse, I refuse!

Whoa, I never meant to brag
But I got him where I want him now.
Whoa, it was never my intention to brag
Just steal it all away from you now.
But God does it feel so good,
Cause I got him where I want him right now.
And if you could then you know you would.
Cause God it just feels so,
It just feels so good.

I watched his wildest dreams come true
Not one of them involving you
Just watch my wildest dreams come true
Not one of them involving.

Whoa, I never meant to brag,
But I got him where I want him now.

Whoa, I never meant to brag
But I got him where I want him now.
Whoa, it was never my intention to brag
just steal it all away from you now.
But God does it feel so good,
Cause I got what I wanted now
And if you could then you know you would.
Cause God it just feels so,
It just feels so good.

It's stupid when people argue about our differences. People like what they like. You can't change that. Everyone has their own taste in music, movies, books, cartoons, etc.

Some people like Paramore, others don't. Some of you think Paramore is a great band, some of you don't.

Arguing is a waste of time. You won't change their minds!

@"To everyone who truly thinks this is a good song" | Reviewer: Miracle | 1/9/12

First off, the song is good. It relates a sentiment in a vivid manner (picture one chick shouting at another) to the accompaniment of a catchy tune.

Second, while the song may have the goods, I think "Anonymous" meant to state that he/she did not agree with the sentiment. All well and good. A song is like a review, you express your point whether others agree with it or not.

Third, I like the sentiment that Paramore expresses in this song. True Anonymous, the sentiment smacks of juvie tunnel vision. It does express an unabashed "smirky," and self-satisfied attitude. And I agree with you Anonymous, that one should not live their life with that attitude. Holding such an attitude about life not only mistreats your fellow humans, but it stoops you to that level as well. "You can't throw dirt without getting your own hands dirty" they say. But despite the truth of all that, we are all human. This song expresses a very human sentiment. And whether we live our lives that way or not, you have to admit that people can connect to human sentiments such as this. In fact, people often prefer to indulge these sentiments in music, movies, and fiction because they refuse to actually live that way - because such a song provides vicarious indulgence in sentiments that are otherwise unlivable.

Third, the "hater" sentiment that this song expresses does indeed have merit in the human experience. Anonymous said,

"I think if ur think a girls a whore u fucking hate her and you fight with the same girl everyday, you would both feel so much better if u just dropped the act and appologized to each other and forgave eachother."

I'm sure that's all Hitler needed - just a little forgiveness. The Al Qaeda would dissolve if we would all just give them a group hug. And Anonymous will change his/her mind and agree with me if we just forgave each other our differing opinions and "made up." The fact is that forgiveness does not always change or heal anything. In the instances where forgiveness will not heal anything, NOT forgiving gives one the solid stance they need to defend their position, and themselves. It's called taking a stance, and those of the "turn the other cheek" camp miss out on the vital strength that one gains from taking a stance and standing up to something bad, for something good. Notice I've at least the conviction in my opinions to not hide behind the "Anonymous" moniker.

Finally, I can't help it - I have to point it out. Anonymous, you have decent points about the sentiment (though I wouldn't attribute your vehemence to the song itself). However, I have to chuckle at the paradox in your statements. You said:

"'Second chances they don't ever matter, people never change.'

I know if you like this song, this sounds like the most down to earth shit you have ever heard right? theres no way i can convince you how immature that is to me, I know no matter what i say ur gonna think im wrong..."

And why's that Anonymous? Because "people never change?"

It's a review for a reason. | Reviewer: Anonymoose | 10/7/11

You know, there's a reason that there's a review section on this site. So people can give their opinions on the song, whether they like it or not. If you're really so narrow minded that you can't take others opinions as well as your own then I feel sorry for you. Just because somebody doesn't like song you like, doesn't mean you should hate on them for it. I, for one, really enjoy this song. I love everything about it. Anonymous, on the other hand, doesn't like the song and felt the need to voice his/her opinion on the matter. I really don't like the way humanity is going right now.

rainbows | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/10/11

First: amazing song, band, etc, etc!
Second: can someone please send the "anonymous" who's shooting rainbows out of his/her ass back to the 60s? please... (i'm sorry for the quote from a different band) "we like who we like, we hate who we hate"!!! you're way to much peace and love for this... so either you don't comment or just don't listen all together! "i'm not going to change your minds, but i'm posting a spreech abaout how you should change them"?? really?

@ "To everyone who thinks this is truly a good song" | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/3/11

My oh my. It is really just a song. A very catchy song song that. I'd also like to point out that Hayley and the rest of the band were only around 19 when they wrote this song. Still just a teenager which means the music would have been geared at teenagers and this kind of music is exactly the kind of thing said audience could relate to. And for what it is- it is a very good song. Good tune, relatable lyrics and it's popularity only supports my point. Honestly, if you have nothing better to do than go around posting nasty reviews about songs that obviously don't appeal to you, I might suggest that you go find a hobby. Try collecting stamps. Much less "controversial".

To everyone who thinks this is truly a good song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/10/11

lol... i don't understand how you can listen to this song and think it sends a good message in any way? Hailey is soooo frickin immature in this song, to me at least. Please hear me out before you start calling me stupid.

"Second chances they don't ever matter, people never change."

I know if you like this song, this sounds like the most down to earth shit you have ever heard right? theres no way i can convince you how immature that is to me, I know no matter what i say ur gonna think im wrong and likewise... but to me thats such a fucked way of looking at the world and people. For god sakes why do people hate other people so EASILY we are all fucken have feelings and should treach eachother like brother and sister WERE ALL ON THE SAME TEAM! ALL OF US HUNANS, yet people love to fucking hate for some reason, its human nature i guess... we really are a fucked up evil species that doesn't even deserve to live.same with

"once a whore you're nothing more, I'm sorry, that'll never change."
Again, you probably are like, "Yep, haileys so smart thats so true"
but to me its like hailey is saying "I don't care wtf you think, i am right ur are wrong, u stupid whore"

And the way i look at it and the right way of thinking for me would sound more like

"Whats a whore? YOU'RE NOTHING MORE!

As in you could never understand a someone you call a whore, so why do you hate them so much? Maybe ur 10X worse than a whore caus ur just a shitty nasty person?

Ya feel me? I think if ur think a girls a whore u fucking hate her and you fight with the same girl everyday, you would both feel so much better if u just dropped the act and appologized to each other and forgave eachother. But then again if you truly like this song you don't even believe in forgivness do you?

"And about forgiveness, we're both supposed to have exchanged.
I'm sorry honey, but I'm passin' up, now look this way."

Its so sad that people actually belive this... Not only are u hurting someone else with this attitude, but what you might not realize is the person you're hurting the most is URSELF! How does that make any sense to hurt urself?

Honestly thats so fucked up to just paint people such a nasty color and fucking hate them without ever trying to understand why someone might actually be a whore... Shit maybe a girls a whore because she hates herself so much and has such low left esteem she trys to fill that hole by sleeping with whoever... Or maybe people that hate whores are the ones with low self esteem and they are just jealos and can't admit it!?

I end with this... Theres nothing I can say to really change ur guys minds, and theres nothing you can really say to make me feel the way you do, but the next time you have an uncontrollable urge to hate someone caus they did the unthinkable to you just see if you can make urself not hate them and understand them. Impossible maybe, but honestly its not as impossible as it sounds to "not hate someone you hate" Whats really impossible is to even try.

PARAMORE | Reviewer: Tiffani | 5/11/10

Haley Williams pure brilliance to her voice, pure brilliance to the sing. Paramore an amazing band my favorite by the way. I belive if Haley goes solol like rumors say, i think she could be huge! She is better than most of the crap we call rock on the radio now a days. Paramore the best band by far of the centery.

ugly truth. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/3/10

Well.. I'm not lame or anything.. I had this 2 years awesome relationship. But I feel like the other girl not hayley.. and it sucks. 'Cause I still was her boyfriend when it happened.. misery business=ugly truth.

Perfect. | Reviewer: Twix | 1/20/10

I love this song, I believe it is absolutely brilliant. Misery Business is the epitome of, well, one side of human nature. The majority of highschool girls and young adult females fit perfectly into this group, I do believe.

Crazy Idea | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/20/10

Ok, I am also a fan of the musical The Phantom of the Opera, and this morning, I had a moment of inspiration. Suppose a person was to mix this song with the Phantom and Christine's rendition of the title song. Complete paramonium, or brilliance? Could Hayley Williams sing such a complicated composition? I think she could.

In sleep he sang to me,
In dreams he came,
That voice which calls to me,
And speaks my name.

And do I dream again,
For now I find-
I'm in the the business of misery,
Just sing it from the top,
Christine's body is an hourglass,
It's ticking like a clock!
It's just a matter of time
before her luck runs out,
When I thought she was mine,
Raoul caught her by the mouth!

Beauty. | Reviewer: Taylor | 12/28/09

Dude, anyone who doesn't absolutely love this song is kinda like crazy. I mean, it's totally wonderful. It's beautiful. It's funny, actually. Funny how people can relate. And it's so straightforward. Pure brilliance.

I don't really like Paramore... | Reviewer: Matt Pierce | 12/20/09

...but Hayley Williams' voice is absolutely beautiful. I got turned on to this song by Guitar Hero World Tour (maybe not the best medium from which to derive musical interests, but whatever), but I'm still just not all that big on Paramore.
