Minnie was the youngest of eight children. At the age of
three she started modern dance lessons, followed by ballet
lessons at 5. Her voice lessons began at the age of nine
and she was developing her operatic chops at 11. Her goal
at a very young age was to become a famous singer... she
sat on the edge of a dream and it came true. A
neighborhood playmate (reported to Ebony magazine, 1979)
said she demonstrated extraordinary devotion and
discipline to her dream. It was More...

Reviews about Minnie Riperton songs

A song that touches the heart and soul | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Lovin' You performed by Minnie Riperton

The first time i heard this was in March of 1975.This is an incredibly beautiful love song that really touches any persons heart and soul when she sings "LOVING YOU IS EASY CAUSE YOUR BEAUTIFUL" she is referring to INNER BEAUTY which is the most important quality in a man or woman and is what we fall in love with and keeps us in love. What a talent she was,we lost her too soon. "LOVING YOU" has to be one of the most beautiful love songs ever performed. thank you Minnie !

Les Fleur | Reviewer: mimi Johnson
------ About the song Les Fleur performed by Minnie Riperton

I was already familiar with some of Ms. Ripperton's music, being a child of the 70's. I was watching the show Unsung and it was about her and this was one of the songs that played. That was the first time I had heard this song and I tell you it took me to a beautiful place. the song is as beautiful as she was.

If you really love somebody, this is the song for you | Reviewer: Elfmamma
------ About the song Lovin' You performed by Minnie Riperton

If you really love somebody, this is the perfect song. It pretty much sums up how I feel about my husband and puts into words, what I can't.
I have always loved this song and as I sing it around the house all of the time, generally to my 6mth old daughter, as it makes her smile, my 4yr old daughter has now also taken to singing it.

Memory Band - my feelings | Reviewer: John
------ About the song Memory Band performed by Minnie Riperton

I have loved Memory Band since the very first time i heard it on a Rotary Connection single C1976/7. The strange singing voices and choruses are wonderful even if nobody else I have met appreciates their subtlety. I play it often as an mp3 track in my car. I heard a later solo version by Minnie Ripperton a couple of years ago on the Richard Searling Soul Music Radio Show on Smooth FM, This was absolutely brilliant, but unfortunately I have never been able to locate it, or to hear it again.

My favorite alltime song | Reviewer: Colin Jonah Jenkins
------ About the song Perfect Angel performed by Minnie Riperton

I was an 11th grader when "Perfect Angel" wafted out of the radio & into my life in Brooklyn, 1989. It was the sweetest melody I ever heard, and I've heard many. But upon hearing it for the first time I instantly connected & became one with the song. The life in Minnie's voice as she craftily made Stevie Wonder's lyrics float to the listener's ears. The distinctive backup harmony of R&B veteran Denise Williams (Black Butterfly, Let's Hear it for The Boy). And that tasty electric piano was the "perfect" musical accomodation to the legendary talent already involved. I bought the album in Times Square's Colony Records In 1990 for 40 bucks & when I saw the ice cream cone drip down Minnie's hand I knew it was worth every penny. To this day it is the only song that can lift my spirits on the darkest day without fail. If Maya Rudolph can read this I hope she knows what a powerful, positive impact her mother's song has had on my entire life and identity. In 1992 I once cut a rap demo talking about ghetto love with a "Perfect Angel" sample as the driving backdrop out in Jamaica, Queens. Living and raising a daughter now in Atlanta, this song still inspires me to have the best days of my life. Now my little 6-year old digs it too. It's my favorite alltime song. Bless you, Minnie.
