While Phil Collins was pursuing his solo career in 1985, Genesis bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford (born: 10/2/50 in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England) formed the pop/rock band Mike + the Mechanics. Featuring Rutherford (bass), former Ace and Squeeze member Paul Carrack (vocals, keyboards; born: 4/22/51 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England), ex-Sad Cafe member Paul Young (vocals; b: 6/17/47; d: 7/15/00), keyboardist Adrian Lee, (b: 1957 in Melbourne, Australia) and drummer Peter Van Hooke (b: 4/6/50; d: 4/6/98), the group released their self-titled first album late in 1985. The record produced two Top Ten hit singles, "Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground)" and "All I Need Is a Miracle," which both peaked on the charts in early 1986. In my naive mind, I used to believe they would get together again and we would be a family once more. I passed up so many visits, he died when I was in second grade forty years ago. So many things I need to say but its too late for me. He needed to know that I loved him. Call your mom, hug your kids, let go of the anger; you can't change anyone else but you can change yourself.
