Mediaeval Baebes Lyrics
Mediæval Bæbes are 12 beautiful tattooed songstresses with
attitude who sing angelic and sometimes haunting music.
Mediæval Bæbes have sold over 80,000 albums in their native
UK. The group was formed in the summer of 1996 and if their
provocative image has been a novel way of selling classical
music, their honesty and their authentic, professional
sound has helped to keep them in the charts and keep
evolving as a musical tour-de-force. The music includes a
number of traditional mediaeval songs sung mostly in latin
but mediaeval poems More...

------ About the song Gaudete performed by Mediaeval Baebes
I really love this song, especially since I can understand the lyrics (not to say other people here don't), which is the first problem that I have with this version by this choir... people should work on their pronunciation before trying to sing in a foreign language. Granted, the average listener out there does not have a degree in Latin or necessarily know much about Latin pronunciation, but still...
Second, I have heard many different versions of this song and can say with certainty that it would work out much better with a male/female choir, because the verses (in between the refrain) have lower notes than those of the refrain, hence the women should sing the refrain and the men the verses (liturgical name for what they are, everyone know this is a religious song, right?), but anyway, I think they have taken a bit of a liberal interpretation of the notes in general in their version, which might be good or bad, but it sounds strange to me...

Well in rebuttle to your comment 'a pretty big fan'
This song was written in 1582, when the pentatonic major key and scale that we know today had not actually been established in this country yet. It was a scale called the Pyrighian scale and only had minor key sounding notes in it.

I Honestly Have to Say. Not one of their best songs. You'd think if they'd be singing about something that is supposedly such a joyous occassion, the least they could do would be to SOUND like it's something to rejoice about! HONESTLY :/
