Mechanical Animals Lyrics - Marilyn Manson

Review The Song (7)

We were neurophobic and perfect
The day that we lost our souls
Maybe we weren't so human
If we cry we will rust
And I was a hand grenade
That never stopped exploding
You were automatic and
As hollow as the "o" in god
I am never gonna be the one for you
I am never gonna save the world from you
They'll never be good to you
Bad to you
They'll never be anything
Anything at all
You were my mechanical bride

A manniqueen of depression
With the face of a dead star
And I was a hand grenade
That never stopped exploding
You were automatic and
As hollow as the "o" in god
I am never gonna be the one for you
I am never gonna save the world from you
They'll never be good to you
Bad to you
They'll never be anything
Anything at all
They'll never be good to you
Bad to you
They'll never be anything
Anything at all
I am never gonna be the one for you
I am never gonna save the world from you
This isn't me I'm not mechanical
I'm just a boy
Playing the suicide king
Yeah
Playing the suicide king
Playing the suicide king
(I`m just a boy)
Playing the suicide king
(I`m just a boy)
Playing the suicide king
(I`m just a boy)
Playing the suicide king
(I`m just a boy)
Playing the suicide king

my interpretation of a verse | Reviewer: Luis | 6/3/14

The part when he said:

"I'm just a boy ,Playing the suicide king"

Probably he means that the love what he gives its making feel like he's dying but he wants to give it, so its like a suicide

Kind of Occult Interpretation | Reviewer: Faust, in his cell | 3/18/11

First, "We were neurophobic and perfect
The day <just before> we lost our souls",
Since, "Maybe we weren't so human
If we cry we will rust"

When we were neurophobic and perfect was the time just before the serpent in the bible, the human being didn't have a thought of his own and didn't die either (perfect). This being represented by the serpent entered the human soul, and then the human acquired a tought of his own. Before that moment, the tought we had was not ours, but the thoughts of heavenly beings. Just like our love is not subject to the revolution of the year, like the animals ; our thoughts is either not subject to the revolution of the heavenly bodies, and that's the gift of the serpent : liberty, althought he's always looking to keep for him the fruit of our deeds (rusting).
With the term "neurophobic", one can think about modern science and what it says : that our cell's brain are always dyng, specially when we are awake, when we work thoughts of our own.
As has sought to demonstrate, the Philosopher said that happiness lies in the operation. And emotion, when it is connected with our I or heart, is the first "motion" of our operation, but like the tin man, emotion can also paralyse us.

"And I was a hand grenade that never stopped exploding" If I continue on the way I took, when the serpent being entered the human soul, he removed the heavenly beings, wich in consequence, that being gave us our thoughts "that heaven don't govern", but he needed also to shut completely our contacts with this heavenly beings. And today, one who would like to find something heavenly inside him, would first find a hole in his soul, just like the "O" in god. Mark the "I I I I I am never gonna..." in the way Manson sing, it feels like a hole in the I. So one can think it's the serpent being who is talking in these verse. (I say "serpent being", but its probably not accurate at all...)

Then, here is a hint (opinion) to : "I'm just a boy playing the suicide king". All the english people should know that suicide king : Hamlet.
"There's something in his soul,
O'er which his melancholy sits on brood;
And I do doubt the hatch and the disclose
Will be some danger (grenade)".
For with Hamlet, we have the drama of the birth of a free soul in our age, someone who is trying to give something truly human to its liberty of action, a moral element ; not simply that wisdom-like animal element : "That things to do". And a free soul of our modern life always come to that threshold of thought : "my father's killed, my mother's stained". For one who would like to live only with his moral element is immediately opposes by the exterior, a corrupted social life (politic) ; and from the interior of his soul, for his soul is truly stain.
"With the face of a dead star" and what is contained in that stanza, one could also see a metaphor of Ophelia. For Hamlet has lost his love : "I loved Ophelia".

I won't particularly recommend Manson to other people, but his lyric and his music are truly the grade of a poet, an evil poet?
What else can I say : "My father's killed, my mother's stained, excitement of my reason and my blood..."

"We were neurophobic and perfect
The day that we lost our souls
Maybe we weren't so human
If we cry we will rust......."
*Becoming neurophobic, meaning refusing to feel or think for yourself, live in a guilt free world,a 'PERFECT WORLD"The day the we followed into this is the day we lost our souls"our true selves. We gave up the things that made us human to protect ourselves from feeling pain."If we cry we will rust"He calling us machines. It's just a metaphor. We're made outta metal and "if" we cry we 'would" rust..*
"And I was a hand grenade
That never stopped exploding
You were automatic and
As hollow as the "o" in god...."
He trys to become mechanical but he's exploding on the inside. The woman he's attracted to is on "auto-drive"She has no cares or feelings. She is soulless and hollow, just like our mechanical god.
"You were my mechanical bride
Phenobarbidoll
A manniqueen of depression
With the face of a dead star...."
His "destined"woman was a beautiful shell of a woman, but on the inside she is dead.It depresses him just looking at her.
"They'll never be good to you
Bad to you
They'll never be anything
Anything at all...
No one will ever bother her or harm and no will make her happy because she can't feel anything at all.
"This isn't me I'm not mechanical
I'm just a boy
Playing the suicide king..."
He is human and he has feelings.Well im not sure what he means by "playing the suicide king"....Maybe he means since hes one of the only "human"people in "his world"he feels he's playing god...im not sure....cool song tho

Love this song | Reviewer: Heaven's Demon | 8/31/10

I love this song so f*cking much. It's a wonderful song that is relaxing and beautiful. I've listened to it about a million times and I the only thing that I can think of, of what it means is that Marilyn is saying we are mechanical and we can not help it . . . basically I think he's talking about love ... about how we are all mechanical to love (meaning that it's all perfect in the beginning, but in the end when our hearts break, we cry and become rusty).

I don't really know what it means, but I think that this is an amazing song. Marilyn Manson is a wonderful artist and musician and I know that he will continue to be . . .

My meaning | Reviewer: Kenny | 7/3/10

I believe he is trying to say that no matter how "perfect" someone is, we all die in the end. Or at least thats what i get from the first verse. And the second verse tells how fake the "perfect" people are. And the last verse says how he is different and how he "sacrifices" his image to stand up against it.

I hope I helped

"If we cry we will rust"

I've listened to this song a hundred times, and I could listen to it a hundred more without it losing it's beauty. I don't entirely understand what Manson is saying through these lyrics, I have a few ideas but they are rather vague...

...anyone who has any idea's on what the meaning behind this song is; should email me or something.... =}
