Meat Loaf was born in Dallas, Texas in the midst of
America’s post-World War II baby boom. In 1967, after
spending his childhood in the Lone Star State, he moved to
Los Angeles, California and then to Detroit, Michigan.
During the last few years of the ‘60s, Meat Loaf fronted a
band (in California and in and around Detroit) known
alternatively as Meat Loaf Soul, Popcorn Blizzard and the
Floating Circus, which opened for such rock and roll
superstars as the Kinks, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, MC5, Ted
Nugent, and Big Brother and the Holding Company (with Janis

Stones and the Jefferson Airplane.”

------ About the song Not A Dry Eye In The House performed by Meat Loaf
No one's reviewed this song! I love all of his songs, but his sad and love songs always make me cry. He's such a wonderful singer, beautiful voice. I miss songs like his. The music nowadays aren't quite as powerful as any of his are.
Alright I've listened to this song over and over for as long as I can remember and looked over the lyrics. It's really not until the end where it makes sense to me.She sings: "I know the territory, I've been around,
It'll all turn to dust and will all fall down,
Sooner or later, you'll be screwing around."
And he responds: "I won't do that. I won't do that."
So it's basically that it won't just be some fling, it's true love. "that" would be leaving her and forgetting it all which he says he won't do.
Personally I believe it's a song in metaphors, the pigs are who we are and depending on how you look at it the butcher is either the rich or god (possibly both?) Personally I believe it's about god, so many things in the song "Slaughterhouse-bells", "Confessional", the whole listening to the choir thing I guess could be understand in more than one way aswell, it could be the choir of a church, though personally I believe it's the masses speaking their mind.
Just a quick fyi if anyone still reads this. If you watch the music video for this song, the girl he is singing about is married to another man and "I wont do that" means he won't take her away from her husband. At the end of the video she ends up convincing him to take her away anyways.
Also,"I wont do that" clearly refers to the fact that he won't share his Dr. Pepper with his woman. Don't you guys watch any TV? :)
He says exactly what he wont do for love. He says it in response to her words. He wont forget her, he wont let her go, he wont let her down. Though if it is true love she would never rightfully believe such a thing in the first place. Even love songs are flawed.
I have heard that "that" is referring to forgetting the beauty of true love. It seems to me this sums up the song pretty good...he would do anything for love but won't forget the beauty of it. Makes sense to me!
I have been wondering for quite a while what the singer means by "I won't do that". There are a few possibilities but the one that now satisifies me most lies in the words of Line 5: But I'll never forget the way you feel right now, oh no, no way.
I believe the lyrics imply that no matter what lies ahead, he will never forget (this woman and) how she feels tonight.
i love this song. | Reviewer: Faith

I agree that they song is powerfull and can mean a lot of things but personally i think it means someone giving themselves fully to one another. In both ways and btw Meatloaf is one person not the bands name.

I heart this song. the lyric is so powerful and it's written beautifully. Everytime i hv a fight with the one i love, ill definitely listen to this song. It encourages me in sort of way to give everything in me to make him happy. It's about love, it's about understanding. *sob*
Good job on the lyrics but would have been nice to see the extended lyrics.....:D.....who ever said about the song being about sex if you listen to the album most of the ongs link...well this and paradise by the dashboard lights. Love Meatloaf to pieces.
I love paradise by the dashboard lights.it is so amazing. I like how u have the girl sing and u sing at the same time and u both r saying different words thats so cool.iwould be confused if i did that.im not really a rock kind of person but i do really love this song.
your # 1 fan,

My friends really think I'm weird for listening to these songs but they are amazing. The guitar and piano are a great mix. My favorite line (it's really hard because the whole song it amazing) wow they didn't include it. Anyway the "could you make an emerald city with these grains of sand" is my favorite line in the song and they don't include it...darn I have the 12 minute version so i guess it's not as long. They should have never radio cut it because then it's just caplooie. Oh well, if you've herd the short one then defiantly get the long one! It's much better

for a long while, each and every song on bat out of hell 2 was my favourite, but this one stuck for so long, especially when you know his history and the truth in the second verse about his dad... i used to cry on cue.

Honestly, this song can mean almost anything to anyone, depending on your spot in the relationship. To me I take it as that part in a relationship when you let other things get in the way of the relationship. Work, hobbies, etc. and forget about the other person, the person who matters most.
At first, the lyrics here match perfectly the album version of the song, the full 12 minutes lenght one!
Next, I'd like to say that this is by far the most complete song by Meat Loaf (written by Jim Steinman) and it should have never been cut to get radio airplay, because every inch of its 12 minutes has meaning to understand the whole piece.
PS: If you don't know what the "that" is, just read the 3rd line of every verse, as well as the 2 last verses of the girl singing... That's the "that" that he won't do for love ;)
