Maybe I'm A Beggar Lyrics - Supertramp
Review The Song (1)
I ain't got too much money, I ain't got too much sense
Long ago I had a dream but that's no recompense
My father was a blind man, my brother was a fool
My mother told me God is love
But hatred makes the rules
Teach me to fly, so I shall drag my feet in the sand
Give me the sky, I will would take the whole world in my hand
Well, don't you tell me that cannot last at all
Before you know I'll come and go
And make you if I can
Maybe I'm a beggar, just check your sympathy
They throw away the gentle love
and keep the pain for me
Can we be free, in a world where to love is to own?
Well when will we see, that a man must face life all alone?
Maybe I'm a beggar, just check your sympathy
They throw away the gentle love
and keep the pain for me
Teach me to fly, so I shall drag my feet in the sand
Give me the sky, I will would take the whole world in my hand
Can we be free, in a world where to love is to own?
Well when will we see, that a man must face life all alone?

This song is from Supertramp's very first album which is titled Supertramp. It was made before the band reached their popularity with such albums as Crime of the Century,Even in the Quietest Moments and Breakfast in America, so it unless you are a big Supertramp fan it is little known yet it is probably some of their best work.
It sounds different from their later stuff because it was done when the band was a purely progressive rock band. It still has the high production values that Supertramp has always been known for. It is a well written song by Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies and Hodgson does an excellent job on the bass. Richard Palmer and Dave Wintrop are just as excellent as well. Don't try to listen for the sax of John Helliwell because he wasnt' with the band at that time. It doesn't matter though. The whole song is just a masterpiece from what I believe is the best band ever yet was so underrated.
It sound different
