Masterpiece Lyrics - Bayside
Review The Song (11)
My friend,
You're always the last one to leave
Those dimly lit rooms.
Making sure the last glass makes its way to the table empty.
And every bottle in the place
Has been upside down
At least a few times what a waste.
Is this what's left of you these days?
You're not eighteen anymore.
Five years should have been,
enough time for you to grow up and get over it.
Its Not too cool to be throwing up all morning sick
from what you might have done or done it with.
And I swear if I could take your pain
And frame it and hang it on my wall,
Then maybe you would never have to hurt it all.
And I'm Painting pictures in red and blue.
A portrait bruised just like you
But now you're walking away.
You're not eighteen anymore.
Five years should have been,
enough time for you to grow up and get over it.
Its not too cool to be throwing up all morning sick
from what you might of done.
When is enough, finally enough?
When the hang-ups and the heartbreaks get you past
All failures and bad breaks just accept yourself
And Find something that brings you closer to complete
And these pictures in red and blue.
A portrait bruised just like you
But now you're walking away.
You're not eighteen anymore.
Five years should have been,
enough time for you to grow up and get over it.
Its not too cool to be throwing up all morning sick
From what you might of done or done it with.
When is enough, finally enough?
When is enough, finally enough?
You're always the last one to leave

I love this song so much and I love bayside just as much. thier all amazing musicians and have really good lyrics. Thier song are so meaningful and if you really listen to the song you can find so much underneath what you hear at first. there also awesome live. i kno this is a really hard time for them and they should kno that thier are millions who support them at home. I dedicate this letter to john, who is no longer with us.

Very very clever song. The melodies are beautiful, the guitars work together and Anthony's voice is nice. The lyrics are very deep and everyone can relate to them. Sounds great live too ;)
i love bayside.

Bayside means so much to me, their music really has so much to it besides just melody and words, the lyrics reach out. I was friends with John Holohan, the former drummer, and his passing has only deepened the music for me bc its an outlet for me to hear him over and over now that he is no longer with us. I hope that this music can be as helpful for you, or as helpful as John wanted it to be for everyone. Masterpiece really signifies how i reacted to the passing of John, going from bars and alcohol, and it showed me the possibility to end up in a way that i dont want, and John wouldnt of wanted for me.
A drunk friend with a tough past... | Reviewer: Giancarlo | 5/11/05
When I listen to this song it reminds me of myself and some of my best friends. We have adopted the habit of dealing with breakups, tough times, losing our jobs, and the death of family members by drinking. True it is that most people (any age) do the same. However, this is the story of someone that still isnt over one of the above. It touches me and catches my attention how a song about being drunk is so deep in its own meaningful way. I have to admit that in the beginning I just liked the song because of the melody, but on one lonely night, while I was driving around the city, I had this urge to drink alcohol. On the way to a decadent alley bar, I found myself singing the words of this song, and I started to scare myself with the meaning. A very weird expirience, but enjoyable at the time. At the end of the time, I learned something while I was driving home listening to another song. "Enjoy the suffering". (Dimmu Borgir). Maybe that is why the friend wont stop drinking, it has become a habit. An enjoyable habit.
