On September 26, 1925, a legend was born in the desert near
Glendale, Arizona. Martin David Robinson started life
rough, as one of nine children raised in poverty. At the
age of twelve, his parents divorced and his mother
struggled to raise the children alone. His youth was often
troubled, but there was nothing that could break the spirit
of this talented youngster. It wouldn't be too long until
the world would know him as Marty Robbins, one of the
all-time greats in country music.
Robbins attended high school in Glendale, but dropped out
of school to serve in the Navy from 1943-1945, where he
learned to play guitar. Upon returning to the
Glendale/Phoenix area, he worked at several different jobs,
including driving a truck and hauling ice, but none held

Review about Marty Robbins What a shame! | Reviewer: Charlie
------ About the song The Chair performed by Marty Robbins
It is a shame that "The Chair" had to be banned from the TV and radio! I think every school should make it mandatory for all the students to listen to it, at least once a week. If the kids had an idea of what happens when you take a life, they would stop the killing and get back to normal. I don't hate kids, I just want to see them grow up into adults (out of prisons)!

------ About the song Devil Woman performed by Marty Robbins
I have always loved marty robbins songs, actually still have an eight track tape of his music. I wish I could get the same songs on a CD. These are tapes from the 70's. Everyone should hear all his songs. Teresa
I've always liked this song so much, that I listened to it, nearlyl all year! In high school it was just about every week. I'd love to be able, to karaoke this song, but haven't been able to find a karaoke cd which contains it.
I'm not completely sure, but isn't it "I'm YOUR used to be"?(sort of "I used to be your boyfriend/lover", something like that). I guess it makes more sense. Feel free to answer whatever you think is correct. Thanks a lot.

------ About the song Cigarettes And Coffee Blues performed by Marty Robbins
I knew one of Martin's sisters and she always told me that this song was about his mother..his dad had left and all she did was sit at the kitchen table smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee. He wrote this song about the many times he saw her doing this.
In my opinion, Marty Robin's version is the best way the song is sung. I think this is the one used by David Bradley, Yodeler. Bradley was with the Son's of the Pioneers, and the Bar D Chuckwagon. Lost his cd with this song on it. Unfortunately. And also, have not actually heard Marty sing this one. Would love to though. He was great. If anyone knows where I can get both cd's, I'd appreciate it. bc
In my opinion, Marty Robbins was an ambassador for country music, covering all aspects of the country music genre. I still perform his songs at all my shows. (www.travislogan.co.uk )
He was a legend in the field of countrymusic.
I may have a lead on who wrote the Utah Carol ballad. Have a hand written, pencil & paper copy of this ballad dating Jan. 1, 1924, by a 12 yr. old girl in a small town = Vichy, Mo.
The words are mostly the same as those recorded by Robbins, but there are a couple more verses, and some of the spelling is that of a 12 yr. old. The title is "Eutah Carol" - the tale is exactly the same as the song recorded 30 yrs later. Is anyone interested in further information. I have the original copy of this ballad.

------ About the song The Master's Call performed by Marty Robbins
I grew up listening to my moms country albums. The one I remember the most is Marty Robbins "Gunfighter Ballads and Trail songs". The Masters Call is probably one of his best if not "the" best on the whole album. It is my favorite song to perform at church. The lyrics are totaly awesome.

Marty didn't sing the verse in Italian. Instead he sang a verse in spanish and I can't find it written down anywhere. I would like to see it so I can learn it.
A Classic Among Classics | Reviewer: Johnny Wayne
------ About the song El Paso performed by Marty Robbins
This song is a prime example of a lost art in modern music... The art of telling a story. The lyrics alone, whether read or sung are able to evoke emotions in even the coldest heart. Marty's "Gunslinger Ballads" are, as I stated in the title, are "classics among classics." The songs are prime to take you back to the setting of the song, and engage you from the first strum of the guitar to the final; you're taken on a journey that even the greatest Hollywood team could not do justice.
Yours by Marty Robbins | Reviewer: Trudy
------ About the song Yours performed by Marty Robbins
According to the record I have of Marty Robbins singing the song; "Yours" He sings; "Your's til the stars have no glory" Not; Your's til the stars lose their glory
Who sings the song it's Oldies or Classic Rock can Never just type it in and get results for it's lyrics like other songs. "Please don't Hurt Virginia She's Not the Same, She's Not the Same". That is the CHORUS to the Song I have no clue who sings it or what its Called.

Marty DID use a Fuzz Sound...a blown mixer channel | Reviewer: Luigi
------ About the song Don't Worry Bout Me performed by Marty Robbins
The first reviewer is absolutley incorrect in his assumptions. There was no manipulation of controls whatsoever. It was a complete and total accident that it happened at all. The mixer channel overloaded and blew during the recording of Grady Martin's Fender Bass solo during this song (It was a bass, NOT a guitar). The result was the VERY FIRST FUZZ SOUND (as opposed to distortion) ever heard on a musical recording. Marty liked the sound, and instead of having Martin re-record it with a clean bass solo on a different mixer channel, he insisted it be left it like it was. It was instantly recognized as unique after 'Don't Worry Bout Me' was released in 1961. A Nashville studio engineer analyzed the burned-out mixing board channel after Marty's sessions, then set about duplicating the sound by experimenting with various electronics. The Fuzz Sound was duplicated, produced, and then it was finally manufactured and marketed properly in 1963 as the Maestro Fuzz Tone. Marty Robbins IS in fact responsible for creating what we know today as the "Fuzz" effect, even if by accident.
