Though he's never had a substantial hit, Marty Brown won a
devoted following among hardcore country fans thanks to his
twangy, classic-style honky tonk and a nasal delivery
straight from the hills of Kentucky. Specifically, Brown
was raised in the small tobacco-farming town of Maceo, and
started playing the local honky tonks at age 14. He later
recorded a demo tape and hitchhiked to Nashville, where he
was profiled on the news magazine 48 Hours and secured a
contract with MCA. His debut album, High and Dry, was
released in 1991 and won fierce praise for its raw energy,
wide musical range, and unrepentant hillbilly attitude.
Afraid of being pigeonholed because of the latter, Brown
moved into a more commercial sound for the 1993 follow-up,

------ About the song Cherokee Boogie performed by Marty Brown
Marty is apparently out of jail, and I hear he is now the sole songwriter for Travis Tritt. He just did a concert up in New England - I'm sure you can find the news about it with google.

Marty Brown racist? get a life. Marty Brown is a traditional singer who is not afraid to stay away from that "canned tuna" crap that music row has been labeling and selling as "country" when it is really just cross over pop. Keep it up marty! never throw in the towel.

Actually, Maceo is near Owensboro, in Western Kentucky, not in the hills, which are in the East.

------ About the song Cherokee Boogie performed by Marty Brown
Marty Brown "fans" might thinly defend this as an attempt at classic twang. In this day and age, people should know better. This is the single most racist song I've ever heard.
A Throwback to 'Real Country' | Reviewer: David Bell
------ About artist/band Marty Brown
Marty Brown is one of those artists who refuse to follow trends, from anything I've heard by him. His first album, "High & Dry" is a kind of a paen to old-time 'Real Country.' On much of it he sounds an awful lot like Hank Williams.-That's Hank Williams, Sr., folks. Who by the way was probably the first rebel of popular music..of country music anyway. But, I digress.
Some of the ballads sound like the Everly Brothers, too. But it's more than just sounding like American legends. Beyond that, Marty Brown has something else that is real and undeniable; A genuineness. A warmth. A truth in just being himself. I've never seen him live, but I did see an interview on TNN with him once and he spoke the same way he sings; plainly and directly. Just a good old country boy from Kentucky who wanted to make a living at playing music, anyway he could. Hell, the man hitch-hiked to Nashville with little more than a guitar and the clothes he had on.
To me he represents everything that was good about the artists from the past. They made music for the sheer love of the music. Their numbers seem to be dwindling very rapidly; Brown, Radney Foster, Vince Gill, Rodney Crowell, Steve Earle, & Webb Wilder are some others that immediately come to mind. It's a shame that Nashville (for sometime now) has followed the rest of the music/entertainment industry. If they don't see a huge profit, then the bigwigs at these corporate conglomerates (the record labels & their parent companys)have no use for it. They have no use for real country music.
But if you like the sound of the 'classics,' be it country or rock, then do yourself a favor and check out the music of Marty Brown.
