Marie Fredriksson was born in a very small village called
Össjö as the youngest of five siblings. The children of the
family were raised to look out for themselves and each
other. When Marie was young, her siblings would take care
of her while their parents worked on their farm. In 1962,
the family sold the farm and moved to Östra Ljungby. Her
mother then got a job at a factory a few miles away from
the family home and her father became a postman, delivering
mail to the surrounding areas. Since there was no day-care
center in the village, he often took Marie with him to work
and during these trips he would sing to her to encourage
her musical interest.
