Review The Song (114)Print the Lyrics
You've got this new head filled up with smoke
I've got my veins all tangled close
To the jukebox bars you frequent
The safest place to hide
A long night spent with your most obvious weaknesses
You start shaking at the thought
You are everything I want
'Cause you are everything I'm not

And we lay, we lay together just not
Too close, too close (How close is close enough?)
We lay, we lay together just not
Too close, too close

I just wanna break you down so badly
While I trip over everything you say
I just wanna break you down so badly
In the worst way

My inarticulate store bought hangover hobby kit
In talks, it says, 'You, oh, you are so cool.'
Scissor-shaped across the bed
You are red, violent red
You hollow out my hungry eyes
You hollow out my hungry eyes

And we lay, we lay together just not
Too close, too close (How close is close enough?)
We lay, we lay together just not
Too close, too close

I just wanna break you down so badly
Well I trip over everything you say
Well I just wanna break you down so badly
In the worst way

I just wanna break you down so badly
Well I trip over everything you say
I just wanna break you down so badly
In the worst way (worst way)

I'm gonna make damn sure that you can't ever leave
No, you won't ever get too far from me
You won't ever get too far from me
I'll make damn sure that you can't ever leave
No, you won't ever get too far from me
You won't ever get too far from me
You won't ever get too far from me
You won't ever get too far...

I just wanna break you down so badly
Well I trip over everything you say
Well I just wanna break you down so badly
In the worst way (worst way)

I'm gonna make damn sure
I just wanna break you down so badly
I just wanna break you down so badly (damn sure)
In the worst way (worst way)

that the guy wants the girl to be in the same postion that he is because of her.'i wanna break you down so badly' he wants her to feel the same pain, that she is pittuing him through.
-welcome in my world.

I can really relate. | Reviewer: Nick Robinson | 10/25/09

Same story as mine, this song. The guy cares very deeply for a girl. She's all full of herself and in the clouds "New head filled up with smoke..." She likes him, just not as he loves her. "lay together just not too close too close." He wants to really have that smack in the face bring you down to earth kind of moment with her. That way she can realize how his heart longs for the girl he knows she is on the inside. Story of my life, lol.

wow this was so overthought | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/29/09

The song is about some one he's stalking. omg it's pretty much out right says it. We lay, we lay together just not to close, to close or how about when it's says the jukebox bars you frequent the safest place to hide. This is actually a pretty forward, simple song.

its so crazy | Reviewer: solomon cruz | 9/9/09

how the subconcious mind works....i had no idea what this song was about, but i knew i just really liked the song, i read the lyrics and these reviews and i find out this song is talking about what im going throu (in a less extreme way) i really dig this chick but I FEEL like shes just keeping me around jus cuz im fun to mess with, and i jst wanna show her how much i care, but i dont think she cares, she used to care, but idk what happened

you all make sense, but I sorta thought... | Reviewer: arc | 8/3/09

yeah, maybe it isn't as corrupt as it seems or maybe it's more.

If you ask me, though, the tone of the song is pretty harsh so it's easier to relate to the darker side of love.

I think it isn't weird for people to have this almost frightening desire within them for another person. Their desire for someone is so fierce, passionate and selfish that they sometimes worry it could hurt the person.

Somehow my impression of the song was that it was about how some people are so desperate to fulfill that desire that they're kind of angry and ready to destroy the person just so that they can say they are the only ones able to put you back together. After all, once you're damaged, you're pretty much stuck to the only person who will accept you in that state.

It sounded like a pretty desperately longing song, the kind that really calls to that side of you that just wants to completely own the person you love.

I don't think I make sense to everyone, but I'm sure some people who read this are kinda getting shot at by my accuracy. My philosophy always is about how things can be two-sided.

what i think, | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/5/09

i don't know why i'm writing this, i was just looking at the lyrics and scrolled down and saw what everybody else put, i guess why not?

so disregarding the music video stuff (dramatic stuff such as drugs, suicide, killing and sex, etc.) there's this girl he spends a lot of time with/thinking about that changed because they defined the relationship as just friends because anything more is impossible for different reasons, so she's trying to convince herself of it, not really seeing that that's not what he really wants, and she wants so much more. "i've got my veins all tangled close to the jukebox bars you frequent, the safest place to hide". his heart is close to the music he listens to, because every song he hears reminds him of her. the safest place for him to express his deep feelings for her is in the music. she spends the "long night" with her most obvious weakness, him; she spends every waking second thinking about him. she thinks for a long time and she gets a little afraid of what could happen if they weren't just friends because of her uncontrollable love for him.

they're intentionally laying, or stuck, close together but at that distance between just friends and something so much more, but that distance is soooo small for them. "how close is close enough" is him wondering and measuring his feelings for her, how much he loves her, and he wants to pull her closer.

he's wanting to break down her shell, that little shell she has up to keep them just friends inside her mind, to see how she really feels about him, and "in the worst way" is describing how badly he wants to find out.

"My inarticulate store bought hangover hobby kit
In talks, it says, 'You, oh, you are so cool.'" describing how his cheap (store bought) way of dealing with the harsh pains she gives him (hangover) are kept inside (inarticulate, unvoiced), but those ways are a hobby to think about because it makes him feel better, because then he doesn't have to think about how much he wants but can't have her, so he confines and limits his feelings to stupid ridiculous shit. "you, oh, you are so cool" is his mind voice that replies him when he does confine his feelings like that, telling him he's cool for brushing off that love "doesn't exist". "scissor-shaped across the bed" isn't the sex crap, it's the way he sees her sleep. she's tangled up in sheets spread across the entire bed, sleeping innocently. in other words, it seems like to him that she's not hurting as much as he is over it, and she's red because his vision is clouded red with anger at her. she she wears down, or hollows out, his hungry eyes because he can't stop wanting her because she's irresistable.

he realizes he's so in love with her, and he realizes that even though they can only be friends, she sure as hell better be written into the rest of his life; he has that wonderful but seriously painful feeling that she is going to be a part of him forever

well that's longer in text than i'd thought it'd be, sorry guys haha. i hope this makes sense. but anywho i agree with those bunches of people who are saying it's your interpretation that matters, because everyone having a different interpretation is what makes music really beautifully amazing, right?

make you want to care | Reviewer: poeticshit | 6/4/09

i feel that this song is about this girl that he cares about so much and he couldn't get her to care for him the same way. It drives him nuts that fact that she doesn't care at all.

This song never fail to remind me about this guy I love so dearly. oh the pain of loving.

I <3 this song | Reviewer: unknown | 6/4/09

''I think the song is about a guy talking about a girl who he likes and the girl says alot of things to make him fall in love with her but he hates her for that because she is a heartbreaker. They hang out but they never get into a relationship because she might not be that into him and she is playing with his head while the guy is is so in love with her and he has gone into a state of hysteria where he is obssessively in love with her and wants to make her feel the pain she's caused him...''

That's exactly what I had in mind.
I think this is one of TBS's best songs.

smoke&viens | Reviewer: DDJC | 5/5/09

i always thought it was just that he loves to hate her, and cant live without her. and shes obviously the same, yet somewhat sad or down. it sounds like one of those "complicated" relationship things where everyone is getting hurt, but neither will just give it up. i can relate, painfully well.
