To reviewer "One Novelist"... it's in the movie "Donnie Darko" and that is where this ghost song invaded my brain. "Tears for fears" was always a one hit wonder for me with "Shout" but this song is a killer. It's really only four chords for an instrument, such as a guitar (Am, C, G, back to Am.....with a couple Dm's thrown in, if you understand this.....) For guitar players, you have to go up the neck to follow the vocal. It's the angst in the voice, that makes it. I hope I do it justice. Poetry at it's best. I hope my voice and fingers and my guitars can do it, echoing off my faded walls.....this is the kind of song that turns normal people into musicians, and artists, and you don't get a choice when that happens. Unbelievable, great song. Five out of five stars, and the original black and white video is amazing. Played too quickly, but still really great. If you haven't seen it, hunt for it. "Mad World" stands out as their single best work, in my opinion, and the lyrics show us again that they are both intelligent and insightful. Mad World is seeming about the crushing depression that intelligent people feel from just watching the very world around them, in this case the Mad World.
