Tears For Fears Mad World Lyrics

Last updated: 03/01/2014 05:43:27 PM

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places
Worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere
Going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression
No expression
Hide my head I wanna drown my sorrow
No tomorrow
No tomorrow
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it's a very very
Mad world
Mad world
Mad world
Mad world
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy birthday
Happy birthday
And to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen
Sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me
No one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me
Look right through me
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cos I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it's a very very
Mad world
Mad world
Mad World
Mad world
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cos I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it's a very very
Mad world
Mad world
Halargian world
Mad world

Circles at odds | Reviewer: Ed Robson | 3/1/14

Although I prefer the Gary Jules tempo, this is an amazing poetic song from tears for fears who's music I love. I always wish it to have been longer.
I can see the frustration in the lyrics all too well, pointless worn out repetative lives around us accenting the hopelessness one can feel in our own. Living for a birthday or xmas not every day with each other. Progressionless and funny (not ha ha). Then there is the part re. dreams/memories we dream being better than perhaps our unfortunate circumstance.
I hope not many can see this clearly, but there is hope in the comment Mad World. Kind of is at times eh.

Lyric correction | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/24/13

At the very end of the Tears for Fear's song, the correct lyrics are "Halargian world," as opposed to "Enlarging your world." I always thought the same until I read an interview with Curt Smith, in which he quoted, "Halarge was an imaginary planet invented by either Chris Hughes or Ross Cullum during the recording of The Hurting. I added it as a joke during the lead vocal session, and we kept it." However, I'm not sure if the lyrics in the cover by Gary Jules stay true to the original or not.

Mad World | Reviewer: deb | 5/14/10

Without a doubt, ONE of their best...I've even heard Curt and Roland saying that they prefer the remake to their original...This song always brought a tear, for it is all so true...Another personal favorite soul touching song by Tears for Fears, is "Famous Last Words"...A very apocolyptic song with soaring vocals and touching lyrics....Tears for Fears is THE most underated band of all time...

difficult to describe what it does to you. . | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/22/10

Check out the music video of Gary Jules who sang the version of Mad World for the movie Donnie Darko. It's on YouTube. Just type in Gary Jules and Mad World. There's an eeriness to it that i can't explain; a sense of being "part-of" and totally separated, isolated at the same time.

Great song | Reviewer: Brian Kari | 11/17/09

This song has haunted me. To reviewer "One Novelist"... it's in the movie "Donnie Darko" and that is where this ghost song invaded my brain. "Tears for fears" was always a one hit wonder for me with "Shout" but this song is a killer. It's really only four chords for an instrument, such as a guitar (Am, C, G, back to Am.....with a couple Dm's thrown in, if you understand this.....) For guitar players, you have to go up the neck to follow the vocal. It's the angst in the voice, that makes it. I hope I do it justice.
Poetry at it's best. I hope my voice and fingers and my guitars can do it, echoing off my faded walls.....this is the kind of song that turns normal people into musicians, and artists, and you don't get a choice when that happens. Unbelievable, great song. Five out of five stars, and the original black and white video is amazing. Played too quickly, but still really great. If you haven't seen it, hunt for it. Worth the time.

More than Words | Reviewer: Mohamed Abada | 6/29/09

I am not surprised at all when knowing that song was written by such a great band such as tears for fears...it feels like they wrote this song for the future...the world is getting mad and mad as the years pass by..when I heard the song for the first time, I felt the urge to know the chords so I could play it with my guitar so I start practising it for a couple of day..if I had to judge this song in one word I'd say "Brilliant".
well done guys

Great Song | Reviewer: Sheena | 4/18/09

It's a great song. I nearly cried. To quote Nyarlathotep-san:

"The Song speaks of happinesses, but in a tone that implies rejection and fear hiding inside this short lives moments of joy. The song furthermore comments on the sheer crushing ennui that school of any kind, that pours slowly into the hearts of intelligent depressive students."

How true.

A mad world indeed... | Reviewer: Nyarlathotep | 2/2/09

Tears for Fears is one of the single greatest lyric-writters in the history of music, pure and simple, they are poets, with a muse what seemingly never relents. "Mad World" stands out as their single best work, in my opinion, and the lyrics show us again that they are both intelligent and insightful. Mad World is seeming about the crushing depression that intelligent people feel from just watching the very world around them, in this case the Mad World.

The Chorus line: "and I think its kind of funny, I find it kind of sad, the dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had." It one of the most powerful grouping of words any song has come up with, the feeling of rejection and pure sadness come through so strongly that it is hard not to tear up when you hear it.

The Song speaks of happinesses, but in a tone that implies rejection and fear hiding inside this short lives moments of joy. The song furthermore comments on the sheer crushing ennui that school of any kind, that pours slowly into the hearts of intelligent depressive students.

People might think this review is "emo" but it is not, it speaks from the great understanding of language that comes with living a life where the song "Mad World" could easily be the background music.

Enjoy Mad World however you happen to, music is generally a very subjective issue and this is only my take, I thank you for taking the time I read my short review-essay and I hope it helps you in, all be it, minor way.

One Great Song | Reviewer: One Novelist | 9/1/07

If a movie-company ever make a film of my first novel, this song will be in it, I'm sure. It's perfect for the felling of the story :)

A Song That Echo's Through Your Mind | Reviewer: Ian Musial | 3/13/07

I consider this my theme song because it's a happy-sad song, No matter what things will always things will have a good and bad side. No matter which way you see life, You see it through another's eye's and not your own. This song has inspired me to be what I need to be in life, And not go through the same old routine.
