MLK Lyrics - U2

Review The Song (1)

Sleep
Sleep tonight
And may your dreams
Be realized
If the thundercloud
Passes rain
So let it rain
Rain down on him
Mmm...mmm...mmm...
So let it be
Mmm...mmm...mmm...
So let it be
Sleep
Sleep tonight
And may your dreams
Be realized

A Special Song that I'm Grateful For | Reviewer: Theresa1 | 9/22/14

True, I find there are some very serious spiritual issues with some other U2 songs, some past performance pieces, some media-works, and some preachings-teachings promoted or supported by this band...However, I do appreciate this song.

I value it as a soothing, melodic dirge that can apply to any lost loved one. Musically, it stirringly well-resonates with feelings of deep pain and loss; while affirming the at-peace state of the one sleeping in death - and yet also a resurrection hope for them (one in which their dreams can be realized).

Scripturally, I know that means - for the vast majority of mankind - a resurrection back to life on a paradise earth here (where there will be no more trouble, sickness, pain, sorrow, injustice, etc.), starting soon, when Jehovah extends his heaven-based Kingdom down over this whole earth, with His Son Jesus as its established King.

When people can live, forever, under such God-made righteous, truly peaceful, and wonderful conditions; they (and all of mankind here then) will absolutely thrive and be happy. Then, their dreams can be realized - and they can thank their Heavenly Father and His Son, heart-and-soul, for making things be so good.

In the past few days, as my (more-than-precious) mom laid dying (of cancer and more), after a couple other more directly scriptural songs, I also played this one. I did that again, in this past day. So this song was my final "see you later, Mom" song I played and tried to sing along to, after her heart stopped and mine was broken; as I put my hand on her cool hand (holding flowers) and her beautiful forehead, as life-force left her body. "Sleep, sleep tonight..." Soon though, Jehovah will call dead loved ones, and they will awaken - they will answer. (Job 14:15) They will come back to life in a much better world here. Then all the sting and pain of death, "the last enemy" will be gone.
