M-O-T-H-E-R (A WORD THAT MEANS THE WORLD TO ME)
Writers Howard Johnson, Theodore Morse
I've been around the world, you bet, but never went to school Hard knocks are all I seem to get, perhaps I've been a fool; But still, some educated folks, supposed to be so swell, Would fail if they were called upon a simple word to spell. Now if you'd like to put me to the test, There's one dear name that I can spell the best! "M" is for the million things she gave me "O" means only that she's growing old "T" is for the tears she shed to save me "H" is for her heart of purest gold "E" is for her eyes with love-light shining "R" means right and right she'll always be Put them all together they spell MOTHER, a word that means the world to me. When I was but a baby, long before I learned to walk, While lying in my cradle, I would try my best to talk; It wasn't long before I spoke and all the neighbors heard, My folks were very proud of me for "Mother" was the word. Although I'll never lay a claim to fame, I'm satisfied that I can spell the name: "M" is for the mercy she possesses "O" means that I owe her all I own "T" is for her tender, sweet caresses "H" is for her hands that made a home "E" means ev'rything she's done to help me "R" means real and regular, you see Put them all together they spell MOTHER, a word that means the world to me.

My Mother | Reviewer: Donna DiCesare | 10/22/14
I remember as a child my mother singing this song to me. She lived a distance from me and I talked to her the night she died.
I sang this precious song to her and I am so very happy I did that.
Mother a godly example | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/5/14
I had a Christian mother. She taught me to trust in God. She is in heaven. I hope to go to see her some day. I still think of things I would like to talk to her about and forget I can't pick up the telephone and just talk to her. It will be worth it all when we see Jesus. I will see my mother sitting at Jesus feet.

M is for the million things she gave me. O means only that she's growing old. T is for her tender sweet caresses. H is for the home she made for me. E is for her everlasting kindness. R is right and right she'll always be. Put them all together, they spell Mother. A word that means the world to me.

Thank you for these printable lyrics. Used to play this song for my Mother on the piano and sing to her. Over the years, somehow the sheet music got lost. This brings back pleasant and precious memories of those times. Mother went to be with the Lord in 2006, but M-O-T-H-E-R- is still the word that means the world to me!

"M" is for the million things she gave me,
"O" means only that she's growing old,
"T" is for the tears she shed to save me,
"H" is for her heart of purest gold;
"E" is for her eyes, with love-light shining,
"R" means right, and right she'll always be,
Put them all together, they spell "MOTHER,"
A word that means the world to me
Song solo and years later | Reviewer: Ken | 5/7/13
I remember singing this song solo in front of the whole church on Mothers Day many many years ago. When my mom passed away in 2004, at the graveside service, I asked my sibling to sing it with me because it was her favorite song.
I love this song. | Reviewer: Pam Leonard | 5/11/12
My Aunt Ann used to sing this song at family get togethers. My gramma died when I was 1 and her "13" kids missed her terribly. So everytime we had a family gathering my Aunt Ann would sing this song in dedication to their Mom "Gramma Helen". So not only does this song remind me of Gramma Helen but of my MOM "Madalyn" (who has passed away to) and of My aunt Ann who is now 79. They were all Beautiful "MOTHERS" who loved their children to pieces.Their children ALWAYS came first.
What a beautiful song. Thank you Eddy Arnold for doing such an awesome job performing it. And to all you Beautiful Mothers out there. Happy Mothers day. I dedicate this song to you all.
