Louis Daniel Armstrong was born in the Storyville district
of New Orleans on the 4 August 1901. The date over Louis's
birth has caused much controversy in recent years. Louis
maintained that he was born on the 4 July 1900, the first
Independence day of the new century. This was taken to be
fact by the wider world until in 1983 a baptism certificate
was found belonging to a Louis Daniel Armstrong from a
church at 139 South Lopez St New Orleans just a few blocks
away from Louis's neighbourhood. It is likely Louis himself
was probably unaware of this mistake and all the leading
experts now generally accept that Louis was born on this
day. It was a custom for many poor blacks unaware of their
birthdays to adopt a famous or significant date such as

okay louis armstrong is my all time favorite musician. and this song makes my day lke if i dont listen to it before i start my day my day ends up horrible. and this surprises alot of people considering im only 15
Yes, I would say Louis Armstrong is one of the best old jazz players the world has ever known. He had this unique style that as his biography brings out, the modern style of jazz can never compare to. Also Louis Armstrong despite his success stayed a humble man and never forgot his roots and this impresses me, I love the man - Rest in Love Louis (RIL).

------ About the song Lazy River performed by Louis Armstrong
I am a huge fan of Armstrong and love listening to his music. I was listening to this song on my computer suddenly thought back to the Ken Burns' documentary "Jazz" (awesome). In this song, the second verse is the first and only verse. A historian (Paul Glaser?) was talking about Armstrong recording this very song. The history goes that Armstrong was recording the song with sheet music in hand. By the last line of the 1st verse, the sheet music fell on the floor. So Armstrong had to improvise. He scatted. He recorded:
Up a lazy river where the old mill run
That lazy, lazy river in the noon day sun
Linger in the shade of that fine ole tree
Throw away your troubles, dream a dream of me, dream a dream of me
Up a lazy river where the robin's song
Wakes up in the mornin', as we roll along
Blue skies up above ....everyone's in love
Up a lazy river, how happy we will be, now
(instrumental break)
(this is also where the sheet music was dropped)
He (Armstrong) laughs and says: if i aint rippin' this evenin' i hope.
(continues to scat)
(plays trumpet to end)
Thanks for posting lyrics from the jazz greats. Please continue.

------ About the song What a Wonderful World performed by Louis Armstrong
this song reminds my gramp too .. i miss him so much .. now he flies with angels !
This song "What A Wonderful World" reminds me of my grandfather, Paige Nicholas Kerbawy. This song is enchanting and an inspiration and also a touching moment. Sometimes I will ask my father, Colin "are you thinking about your dad"? This song is so powerful and spirited.
One of the greats of 20th century (or is it late 19th) American music. The melody is enchanting; it, the lyric and the rhythm are all a piece. Wonderful key changes, surprising series of descending half-tones and, the way Louis sang it, great rhythmic stuff, sudden unexpected triplets that drive the meaning of the song deep into the heart. But I hear the lyric this way (could just be a different recording since I'm not quoting from the published lyric):
Do you know what it means
to miss New Orleans,
to I miss it both night and day
I know it’s not wrong
this feelin's gettin' stronger
the longer I stay away
Miss the moss covered vines,
the tall sugar pines
where mockin' birds used to sing
And I'd like to see
that lazy Mississippi
a’hurryin' into spring
Oh, The moonlight on the bayou,
a Creole tune that fills the air
I dream of Oleander in bloom
and find I'm wishin' that I was there
Do you know what it means
to miss New Orleans?
'cause that's where I left my heart
And there's something more
I miss the one I care for
More than I miss New Orleans.

------ About the song You Go To My Head performed by Louis Armstrong
This song, as executed by Pops, is spine tingling. The instrumental lead-in is flawless, backe by a quartet that includes Oscar Peterson and Ray Brown. The vocal is full of emotion that is reminiscent of one who has known what it was to want someone desperately. Simply put, an outstanding performance all the way around.
