Lost In Hollywood Lyrics - System of a Down

Review The Song (21)

[Serj & Daron moan a little bit]

I'll wait here,
You're crazy,
Those vicious streets are filled with strays,
You should have never gone to Hollywood.

They find you,
Two time you,
Say you're the best they've ever seen,
You should have never trusted Hollywood.

I wrote you,
And told you,
You were the biggest fish out here,
You should have never gone to Hollywood.

They take you,
And make you,
They look at you in disgusting ways,
sponsored links
You should have never trusted Hollywood.

[Serj moans "now"]

I was standing on the wall,
Feeling ten feet tall,
All you maggots smoking fags on Santa Monica Boulevard,
This is my front page,
This is my new age,
All you bitches put your hands in the air and wave them like you just don't care.

All you maggots smoking fags out there on Sunset Boulevard.

All you bitches put your hands in the air and wave them like you just don't care.

Phony people come to pray,
Look at all of them beg to stay,
Phony people come to pray.

[The lines in the letter said "We have gone to Hackensack"]

Phony people come to pray.
Look at all of them beg to stay,

All you maggots smoking fags on Santa Monica Boulevard,

All you maggots smoking fags out there on Sunset Boulevard.

All you maggots smoking fags out there on Hollywood Boulevard.

You should have never trusted Hollywood.
You should have never gone to Hollywood.

All you bitches put your hands in the air and wave them like you just don't care.

You should have never trusted Hollywood.

Stabbed in the back!!! | Reviewer: Ferrador | 3/24/13

The contents of this song are very simple.
It speaks about someone who went trying to make it as a performer, and had success but when "his time passed" the folks who hired him simply sent him away and fetch someone else, showing that the bottomline of industries is money, nothing else...

Hollywood or anywhere | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/26/11

It's obviously a criticism of Hollywood, but I think it can be applied to other sites. As I see it, this song talks about when someone leaves home, family and friends and go to another city to "be somebody." Even though these people encouraged him to do that, the new city and environment will spoil him and eventually he or she will realize is alone. It's paradoxical that someone goes to another place to "be somebody" and ended up losing him/herself, when his or her true person was always at home.

Backstabber? | Reviewer: Shane | 11/28/11

The obvious meaning being criticism of Hollywood, and the other side of the place.

Maybe it's about someone who leaves their friends, and treats them like they're dirt because they think they've found better friends, then in turn get backstabbed by their "Cool Friends"?

To be honest, this is not informed at all, just a bit of new perspective.

Powerful Base | Reviewer: jun | 6/8/11

I really like this song, me and my band always played this song...
SOAD really show what HOLLYWOOD true colors...
And i know that this is real, a lot of people has been destroy'd by HOLLYWOOD, in HOLLYWOOD you can see all kinds of people wasting and ruin their lives, it doesn't matter who you are...

Criticizing Hollywood? | Reviewer: Gabriel | 12/4/10

Hollywood deserves criticism. America is constantly embolized through Hollywood and southern California. Its streets are littered with lies and broken dreams. If Hollywood symbolizes America, then America symbolizes greed and anger and lies. They turn you into a hideous monster. Leave them to be dealt with by another.

Criticizing Hollywood | Reviewer: RikusChaos5 | 7/15/10

Aside from criticizing Hollywood, I listened to it in a different perspective, and while they are no doubt criticizing Hollywood I feel there may be a connection to one of the members, as this song seems like one that someone would write if they failed at being famous in Hollywood, possibly before being a band.

Scaring Amazing | Reviewer: Parker | 5/24/10

This song scared me the first time I listened to the lyrics. Not in a bad way. We idolise America (or we do where I live) and this was a huge wake up call. It changed my views on the world and possibly my future. As scary as it is I love it. It's an absolutely amazing song.

someone ! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/22/09

Great song ! I think they show Hollywood as a bad place, wchich is changing and destroying young people, with dreams of making a career. They come there and they're abused, used, and they become rotten and with no morality.

Reading between the lines | Reviewer: Patrick Awad | 3/31/09

okey this song is really meaningful , as we know Santa monica boulevard is a religious place , people come from all over the world to pray there, unfortunately fags and maggots start hanging there, they smoke and they actually dont care about this place about everything ! now few people come to pray there. SOAD are trying to critisize hollywood !
this song is so good ! (The rythm the lyrics ...Everything !) Way to go SOAD ! love u so much

I connect with this song deeply. As a traveling musician I play in a lot of bands that did well surrounding my small home town. When I moved out to Los Angeles, I joined and band that was set to "make it" but as it turns out, everyone is trying too hard to be rockstar instead of going with their heart. I came home to remember that it isn't about how famous you become, it only matters who you inspire with your music.

Thank you System of A Down.

Meaning. | Reviewer: Elias | 10/10/08

This song tells about a girl/boy who has been invited to Hollywood, probably to act in some plays or etc, but the singer knows it's only fake:

"You should've never gone/trust in Hollywood"

those are words which he tries to tell to the girl/boy who has gone to Hollywood:
´
"I wrote you, and told you. You're the biggest fish out there."

This is everyone's own opinion how they want to understand, but I though that it must mean that the girl/boy is too "talented" to be in Hollywood, and they are abusing her/his skills (in show bisnes)

And the end part of "Phoney people come to pray." Must mean about the directors and people suck like them who are abusing talented people to make money.

That's how I get this song :O Hope somebody agrees with me, or somebody thinks way other than me or then somebody gets new thoughts about my comment.

Gratest song ever | Reviewer: beausephino | 8/6/07

Best song by SOAD Period.
Daron's vocals fit the mood perfectley

the first time u listen u belive the drums during the first verse are ominous to some heavy metal like most of the other album but its a pleasent suprise to keep the song very slow

beautiful

Serj | Reviewer: Taylor | 8/1/07

This song is wonderful in every aspect. It is one of S.O.A.D.'s slower songs, and I think that a lot of their slower songs are better. I think that this song brings some traditional Armenian-style instrumentals, and fits them in perfectly, and subtly. My favorite aspect by far, is the way Serj integrates his voice into some of the better parts. For example, when he says "The lines in the letter said 'We have gone to Hackensack'" , it sounds perfect against the rest of the melody.
